Position Summary

The Hugh Hodgson School of Music at the University of Georgia ( UGA ) seeks a limited-term lecturer, artist-teacher of saxophone to co-direct the saxophone studio in applied instruction and chamber music, and teach up to two academic courses per semester in the candidate’s areas of expertise. These could include, but are not limited to, courses in the following areas: 21st-century career preparation and development, improvisation, performance practice in non-Western and/or non-classical styles, musicology/ethnomusicology, recording technology, or other areas aligned with the candidate’s experience. This is full-time (9 month), benefits-eligible, non-tenure track limited term appointment.

Responsibilities
The lecturer in saxophone will work jointly with the current saxophone instructor in the following responsibilities:
● Serve as an artist-teacher of saxophone.
● Teach applied saxophone lessons to students from undergraduate through doctoral levels and lead weekly studio class.
● Conduct active recruitment activities across the state and beyond.
● Instruct courses in woodwind literature and pedagogy, as needed.
● Coach and manage all aspects of the saxophone chamber music program (quartets and saxophone ensemble), including the development of innovative community performance projects and other creative collaborations such as commissioning projects.
● Teach up to two academic courses per semester per the candidate’s expertise.
● Other duties as assigned.

Additional Requirements

● A terminal degree in saxophone (such as a Doctor of Musical Arts). Candidates with a master’s degree in saxophone will also be considered and must document exceptional accomplishments and professional experience (minimum two years). Candidates without a doctoral degree must be approved for a terminal degree exception before hire.
● Minimum one year university teaching experience in saxophone, with ability to develop and teach course work in the additional areas of candidate’s expertise.
● Must be currently legally eligible to work in the United States.

● Demonstrated outstanding experience in performance experience (such as but not limited to earned prize in competition, earned placement in a professional ensemble, conference performance(s), or prestigious performance invitation).
