Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities

The Research Institute on Social Equity ( RISE ) is searching for a Senior Research Fellow to work closely with the Director of the Center for Public Policy and the program leaders on the Virginia Department of Emergency Management project in RISE which is focused on promoting equitable distribution of the COVID -19 vaccine to disproportionately impacted communities throughout the state, specifically in the LatinX communities. The Senior Research Fellow will also work closely with the Director of the Center for Public Policy to advance the additional research efforts of other RISE projects when appropriate. The Institute seeks qualified candidates for Senior Research Fellow who will be responsible for conducting equity-based research in the area of public policy, specifically in addressing the best practices associated with reaching marginalized communities.

Minimum Hiring Standards

● PhD degree
● Three (3) years of relevant experience conducting equity-based research
● Strong connection to the LatinX community
● Fluent in Spanish
● Ability to manage multiple projects while simultaneously directly managing all aspects of the project life cycles
● High degree of personal ownership and accountability to consistently deliver results and prioritize work in a fast paced and high-profile environment
● Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations
● Excellent presentation skills and confidence speaking in a variety of public settings
● Strong written and verbal skills with the ability to relate to varying audiences
● Ability to think critically, creatively, and strategically
● Ability to perform under pressure and manage multiple projects with competing deadlines in a self-directed manner
● Ability to embrace change and to organize and effectively manage multiple priorities, programs, and projects
● Availability to work non-traditional hours on program and event days

● Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so at VCU

Preferred Hiring Standards

● Equity based research experience
● Awareness of best practice trends in equity research, public policy and working with underserved communities
● Experience with grant and/or contract writing
