Position Summary

The University at Buffalo Division of Athletics invites inquiries, nominations, and applications for the position of Director of Business Operations. Reporting to the Assistant Athletic Director for Internal Operations you will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of business office including but not limited to procurement, payables/receivables, department revenue, team travel, recruiting travel and reconciliation.

The successful candidate must demonstrate a strong financial acumen, attention to detail, be a self-starter and show a commitment to continuous quality improvement, and innovation. In addition, a commitment to effective communication, integrity, transparency and confidentiality is an expectation for this position.

Key accountabilities and responsibilities

•Coordination of all goods and service purchases that are processed through a variety of funding sources for the Division of Athletics ( DOA ). Ensure that all State, UBF and University guidelines are followed in the procurement of goods and services for the DOA . Review all invoices for appropriate action. Act as a liaison with University Purchasing for the DOA .

•Oversee department PCard program, including expenditure approval, monthly reconciliation and post-audit responsibility.

•Oversee department Travel Card program, including all reconciliations through Concur. Assist department staff on all Concur related matters. Review all travel reimbursements for the DOA and ensure that the coaches and staff submit proper receipts and paperwork for travel related to business purposes. Ensure all State, University, Division of Athletics, Conference and NCAA policies and procedures are adhered to when processing reimbursements.

•Assist with the monitoring of $30M intercollegiate athletics budget.

•Assist with supervision and maintenance of financial accounts.

•Assist in developing and implementing departmental policies.

•Assist with various reporting requirements ( NCAA Agreed Upon Procedures, EADA, etc.)

•Assist with financial analysis and presentation development.
•Monitor compliance for all State, University, Division of Athletics, Conference and NCAA policies and procedures related to business operations.

•Supervise 1 full-time staff member.

•Assist with various additional duties and responsibilities related to Athletic Administration as requested by Assistant Athletic Director.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree required. Preference for degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Sport Administration or Management. A minimum of two years’ relevant experience in Intercollegiate Athletics department, business or financial management. Some knowledge of NCAA regulations required. Database and work processing skills, strong communication and organizational skills mandatory.

Preferred Qualifications

Prefer five years’ experience and a master’s degree. Thorough knowledge of basic account procedures with an aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills.
