The vision of the College of Education is to become a recognized
national leader in the advancement of research and practice on
equity, access, and advocacy through the preparation of scholars,
practitioners, and innovators. Chairperson of the Department of
Counseling is a 12-month position that reports to the Dean and
serves as the chief administrative and academic leader of the
department. The Chairperson will be expected to provide visionary
leadership of innovative programs with a strong
practitioner-researcher emphasis. In addition to the general
oversight of the department, he or she will be responsible for
strategic planning; budget development, management and allocation;
recruitment and retention of faculty and students; faculty, staff,
and student development; management and improvement of curricula;
evaluating faculty performance for the allocation of awards;
fundraising; interacting with other department and university
leaders to represent the goals of the department. The chairperson
must implement strategies to increase recruitment, retention, and
graduation rates of students in all degree programs.
