Texas Southern University (TSU), a student-centered, comprehensive doctoral university, nestled in the heart of Houston’s historic Third Ward, has been a long-term power for good and social justice in Texas, the nation, and the world. A distinguished educational pioneer since 1927, this independent, urban-located HBCU is known for its deep engagement in social justice and civil rights and is one of the most diverse and respected institutions in Texas.

TSU’S academic and research curricula are committed to ensuring equality, offering innovative programs that are responsive to its urban setting, and transforming diverse students into lifelong learners, engaged citizens, and creative leaders in their local, national, and global communities. TSU offers more than 100 undergraduate and graduate programs and concentrations – bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral and professional degrees – organized into 10 colleges and schools on a 150-acre campus.

TSU seeks a visionary leader who will lead it to next level progress and position the students and the university for greater opportunities. The next president must be prepared to strategically lead TSU through expected and unexpected challenges. The individual will be a proven, mission-driven leader who is student-centered and understands the essential components of impactful student services.  The successful candidate will have proven capacity as a fundraiser and economic driver, have an appreciation for the value of shared governance and a demonstrated commitment to diversity. The candidate of choice will have a substantial record of transformational leadership, be an outstanding communicator, and operate with the ability, insight and organizational skills needed to develop talent, build and empower effective teams and incorporate best practices.
