About the Opportunity:
Operating under the direction of the Chair of the Department of Biology as the position supervisor, the Business & Operations Manager is the lead administrator for the Department of Biology within the College of Science (COS).

Responsibilities:
This role oversees the budget, administrative staff, and financial operations, and supports the academic operations of the department. The Business & Operations Manager is one of six such roles within COS, and is charged with being a resource and a subject-matter expert on administrative issues for department faculty, as well as being the lead administrative liaison with the COS Dean's Office. The Business & Operations Manager, with the Department Chair, is responsible for building and leading a team of department staff covering the HR, grants administration, finance, and space management needs of the Department of Biology.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or a related field required; Successful candidates will have a minimum of six to eight years of experience in finance, grants administration and human resources. The ability to get work done through managing others is essential to the success of this role. Knowledge of general accounting principles and federal compliance standards are a must. Exceptional communication skills, written and verbal, are critical in this role. Problem solving skills and use of good judgement are also particularly critical in this role.


Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in managing a team of staff in an academic science department is preferred, as is a Master's degree.
