Minimum Qualifications: The minimum education
requirement for appointment to this position is a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in
a relevant discipline, with a strong research and teaching
background in Multicultural/Inter-Ethnic Studies, using an
intersectional lens. Candidates nearing completion of the terminal
degree may be considered; however, all requirements for conferral
of the degree must be met no later than August 17, 2021.
Additionally, candidates must
demonstrate:
(1) solid preparation and interest in contemporary African American
issues and identities;
(2) evidence of cultural knowledge of and experience with the
community(ies) of study;
(3) potential excellence in teaching at the undergraduate
level;
Preferred Qualifications: Preference for
candidates with experience in mentoring, outreach and retention
efforts with students of color and/or students from other
historically underserved groups; demonstrated proficiency with
interdisciplinary, inclusive and/or student-centered pedagogy;
established or potential for establishing relationship with African
American communities in Northern California.
Responsibilities: Expectations include: pursuing
research and/or creative activities; teaching a variety of courses
in Multicultural & Gender Studies (including GE) through an
intersectional lens, including courses within the area of African
American Studies and service within MCGS (e.g. outreach,
recruitment, retention, mentoring, and otherwise helping foster the
success of students; student advising; curricular development; and
honors thesis direction, etc.) as well as at the levels of College,
University, and Profession. The successful candidate will work with
other colleagues to accomplish our MCGS Strategic Plan and build
enrollment in our intersectional programs. Teaching assignments are
based upon qualifications of the individual and the needs of the
department.
