The Assistant Vice President for Facilities Management manages and directs, the technical and administrative aspects of several operating departments including the following departments: Facilities Planning, Operations & Maintenance, Building Services, Landscape and Grounds, EHS & Fire Safety, and Sustainability; providing maintenance and utility services to the University community. Scope of responsibility includes all university and satellite buildings, facility planning, grounds, energy conservation, environmental health and fire safety, utilities and mechanical/electrical/plumbing systems.
Operations Management - 50
Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Facilities Planning and Facilities Operations departments. Responsible for overseeing the Planning, Operations & Maintenance, Building Services, Landscaping & Grounds, EHS & Fire Safety and Sustainability. Supervises the departments and its personnel through setting and holding standards of basic hiring/firing/counseling/written warnings/yearly evaluations and all the paperwork that accompanies these functions for 135 employees. Develops and implements departmental policies. This includes reviewing and updating current polices as well as recommending additional polices/procedures to improve service. Ensures that University rules and regulations, policies, and procedures are implemented and followed.
Liason - 25
Participates in committees, meetings, appointments and trade shows to provide and gain feedback and promote issues related to Facilities Management. Assists with development and implementation of departmental policies, procedures, and goals. Participates in seminars and conferences to gain knowledge, interact with campus and building constituents and project managers on items that affect or are affected by Facilities Planning and Operations. Represents Facilities Management on committees or as a liaison with city, county and other colleges as the most knowledgeable resource of Georgia College facilities issues. Administers to the needs of individuals/groups outside Facilities Operations in an effort to promote positive public relations. Attends project manager meetings and vendor meetings in order to represent Facilities Management issues and impact. Reviews construction documents and provides feedback to project management, highlighting compliance/non-compliance of facility needs. Participates as a guest speaker or teaches seminars as requested; utilized as consultant for any local city, county, state organization to assist in public relations. Works with colleagues and Vice President for Finance and Administration to develop and modify policies and procedures for Facilities Management.
Budget - 15
Oversees the performance of duties in the areas of budget, finance, policy development, project planning and management, or consultation for Facilities Management. Supervises and plans for Facilities Planning and Operations staff.
Strategic Planning - 10
Evaluates existing facilities and advises University administrators concerning future maintenance of facilities. Assists in establishing priorities for major projects and renovations, and makes recommendations for improvements in facilities.
Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, construction management, business management or related field Required Experience
A minimum of ten years of experience in facilities management (planning, maintenance, and housekeeping); experience working in a higher education setting; extensive experience managing a complex facilities operation; and experience in budget development and management, work order systems, and quality control.
Preferred Educational Qualifications
Master's degree in engineering, architecture, construction management, or business management Preferred Experience
Managerial experience in higher education
Proposed Salary: Commensurate with experience.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Ability to communicate both orally and in writing. Ability to plan and direct the work of skilled workers. Ability to read and interpret blue-prints, sketches, and detailed drawings, specifications, and work other trades. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with campus the community, design professionals, the public and employees. Ability to create preliminary sketches or drawings. Ability to determine technical and equipment needs to develop work plans. KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of business and financial management practices. Knowledge of structural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems. Knowledge of policies and procedures is required. Knowledge of standard skilled trade operations and repair methods. Considerable knowledge of accepted safety regulations and safe work practices. Thorough knowledge of codes and standards. SKILLS
Must possess good human relation skills and the ability to influence others and negotiate towards a common goal. Administrative and supervisory skills.
