Faculty, Tenure Track, Assistant Professor - Teacher Education

Summary:
Utah Valley University School of Education is seeking a tenure-track faculty member to teach elementary science methods courses in our teacher education program beginning Fall 2021. Candidates should have an earned professional teaching license in elementary education and a minimum of two years experience teaching in an elementary school environment. Responsibilities will include teaching undergraduate courses in elementary science methods and other teacher education courses as deemed appropriate, potentially including graduate courses; engaging with partner school district teachers and administrators in clinical teacher preparation as well as in supervision of students in field placements, student teachers, and interns. Faculty members provide service to the School, university, and community; participate in the accreditation process; support collegiality, and uphold professional and ethical standards; engage in scholarly activities and/or creative endeavors which contribute to the academic mission of the School of Education, UVU, and profession; and support preservice teachers in completing a teacher performance assessment.

Required Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited institution with a doctorate degree in a field directly related to the area of instruction (or ABD with dissertation defense scheduled - degree must be in hand by position start date)
At least two years of K-6 teaching experience
Earned professional teaching license (Elementary Education)


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Knowledge of content, methods, and dispositions required to teach courses in elementary science methods
• Knowledge of current national and state science education standards
• Knowledge of current trends, innovations, and research in preservice teacher education, particularly in elementary science education, including clinical programming and teacher performance assessment
• Knowledge of effective supervisory practices related to preservice teacher education
• Knowledge of and willingness to uphold professional and ethical teaching standards
• Skills for effective and engaging teaching
• Skill in creating and managing a productive learning environment
• Skill in assessing students’ understanding and providing timely and effective feedback to preservice teachers
• Excellent communication skills
• Skill in elementary content integration
• Skill in teaching in multiple delivery formats and modalities
• Ability to relate well with students and colleagues
• Ability to teach effectively in an inclusive and engaged student-centered environment
• Ability to engage in critical professional issues and innovations, including teacher performance assessments
• Ability to communicate and interact positively with colleagues, preservice teachers, and K-6 personnel and students
• Ability to serve on School of Education, university, and other professional committees
• Ability to uphold a collegial teaching and working environment


Preferred Qualifications:
At least two years of successful college/university-level teaching experience in a teacher education program
Knowledge of and/or experience with edTPA
Expertise in another field relevant to elementary teacher education
Evidence of scholarly potential


Physical Requirements:
Frequently standing, walking, and sitting. Frequent use of fine-hand manipulation associated with the use of a computer. Consistently talking, hearing, and speaking.
