The University of Oklahoma (OU) seeks an outstanding biomedical research scientist to join as research scientists on the faculty in the OU Department of Anesthesiology in its College of Medicine (COM). A tenure-track position is open for a promising assistant, associate professor. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct a nationally recognized, independent, externally funded research program in basic or translational biomedical sciences pertaining to anesthesiology and perioperative medicine. Special focus is placed on the research relating to perioperative and trauma-induced coagulopathy, therapy and monitoring device development, while individuals with various backgrounds in basic and translational biomedical and bioengineering will be considered.
The ideal candidate for this position would be a basic scientist with expertise in investigations of disease models (in vitro, in vivo, or in silico) to study the pathophysiological mechanisms of perioperative coagulopathy, and in employing modern pharmacologic, physiologic, genetic, imaging or computational approaches for the diagnosis and treatment of bleeding and/or prothrombotic conditions.
The successful applicant will join a newly created research group of the OU Anesthesiology Department, housed in the Research Park campus of the University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma City. The research group will study normal and abnormal coagulation processes in preclinical and clinical models, using a variety of approaches ranging from molecular, cellular, and to computational. A diverse patient base provides opportunities for patient-based or translational investigations.
The research program is currently supported by the OUHSC Department of Anesthesiology and the OU College of Medicine. Existing biomedical research strengths within the COM, OU Norman campus, and neighboring Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation provide a unique environment for collaboration.
Salary and rank will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience, and the startup package will be competitive. To apply, please send (1) a Curriculum Vitae, (2) a two-page description of research experience, current interests and projects and long-term goals, (3) a one to two page statement of teaching philosophy (4) representative reprints, and (5) the name and contact information for three references.
Review of applications will begin immediately and continued until the position is filled. For the fullest consideration by the committee, applications should be received by April 4, 2021. Please contact Tara Sanders, Sr. Administrative Manager, Department of Anesthesiology at Tara-Sanders@ouhsc.edu should you have any follow-up questions.
