The Opportunity

Coastal Carolina University invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the College of Graduate and Continuing Studies. The dean search committee will begin to review applications in early March 2021, and continue until the position is filled.  It is anticipated that the new dean will begin responsibilities July 1, 2021. The Dean will serve as the chief academic officer for the newly formed College of Graduate and Continuing Studies and report directly to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. The University seeks an experienced individual who will provide the vision, direction, and leadership necessary to define and build this new academic unit.

 

The College of Graduate and Continuing Studies

This newly organized academic unit includes: 1) oversight of all graduate programs at the university (in concert with academic departments, graduate faculty, and college leadership); 2) oversight and leadership of all Continuing and Community-based credit and non-credit education.

 

Dean Attributes

  • Experience as an academic leader with a track record of demonstrated achievements in the oversight of Graduate Programs;
  • An ability to engage in a collaborative visioning process for this new College;
  • An earned doctorate from an accredited institution in one of the disciplines offering a graduate degree at Coastal Carolina University;
  • A personal commitment to graduate education, scholarly activity, and sponsored programs as evidenced by publication, grant writing, and teaching;
  • Experience in the leadership of a graduate program/division at a predominantly undergraduate institution;
  • A commitment to student success and the ability to recruit and retain graduate students of promise – including those from under-represented and underserved populations;
  • A demonstrated commitment to community needs and interests, along with the ability to work with other Colleges/Departments to develop credit and non-credit programs;
  • Experience in furthering the role of graduate programs at a university, including the assessment and development of graduate programs and new program approval;
  • The ability to work collaboratively in order to foster and manage positive change in a dynamic environment.
