Assistant Director, Cancer Research Career Enhancement and Education

The UI Cancer Center (UICC) invites applicants for the position of Assistant Director, Cancer Research Career Enhancement and Education (CRCEE). This position will oversee and provide leadership on the ongoing development of the CRCEE programs. These programs are to be aligned with the National Cancer Institute requirements for Cancer Research Career Enhancement and Education in the Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG). The Cancer Research Career Enhancement and Education program pipeline begins in high school and continues through college > graduate/medical school > fellowship/residency > early investigators > principal investigators - with cancer health disparities focus.

Key Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Support and serve as key advisor to the Associate Director of Cancer Research Career Enhancement and Education (CRCEE) in the execution of responsibilities and mission.
  • Ensure adherence to CCSG guidelines in CRCEE.
  • Advise on or develop programs, donor proposals, progress reports, and help in curriculum planning.
  • Facilitate the development of cancer related training grants
  • Develop and lead workshops/symposiums.
  • Liaison with trainees, evaluate and monitor student pipeline.
  • Lead efforts to develop common metrics for education programs.
  • Assess current and future mentoring needs of workforce.
  • Build relationships and connect with other institutional and national efforts to build synergy with the UICC.
  • Serve as advocate for CRCEE in UICC's planning and decision-making activities.
  • Participate in formulating the vision of the UICC strategic goals, and strategizes within CRCEE to achieve those goals.
  • Serve as member of the Cancer Scientific Council, which is the primary planning and evaluation committee.
  • Serve on multiple other committees depending on respective role and as assigned by the Associate Director.
  • Manage CRCEE overall operations.
  • Performs other related duties and participates in special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Master's degree in Public Health or related field required. PhD preferred.
  • Minimum of seven years of related experience in program development.
