Under the general supervision of the Associate Dean or Dean, the Instructor is responsible for instructing students in various courses in a classroom, laboratory, online, distance learning and/or hybrid setting. Teaching assignments for this position include, but are not limited to, Anatomy, Physiology, Biology, and Microbiology. The instructor develops course objectives, implements teaching strategies, advises students, monitors and evaluates student progress and keeps accurate student records.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provide Instruction in Assigned Subject Areas
Provide instruction to students in the face-to -face classroom,
online, hybrid, and/or dual-credit setting according to the
objectives of each course assigned. These courses include, but are
not limited to, Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, and Biology and
Microbiology. The instructor will utilize a variety of
instructional strategies in the classroom/laboratory/online that
include, but are not limited to, lecture, small groups, engaged
learning techniques, demonstrations, and student laboratory
experiments.
Provide For Student Evaluation and Record Keeping
Prepare and administer evaluation instruments and maintain accurate
student records on attendance, achievement, and progress.
Serves as an Academic Advisor for Students Serve as an Academic Advisor to Academic Transfer Program students. Tasks included in this area are: assist students in selecting and registering for courses; advise students on their academic progress, courses needed for graduation, and division/college policies and procedures; and generally serve as the first line of communication between students and the college staff.
Remain Current in Events and Developments Related to Subject Areas Increase and improve personal teaching and subject knowledge through supplemental sources such as in-service activities, conferences, workshops, technical updates, and personal self-study.
Participate in Departmental, Division, and College Meetings and
Committees
Attend department, division, and college staff meetings and serve
on committees.
Develop/Revise Course Curriculum and Educational Material
Develop and/or revise course objectives, content, descriptions, and
instructional strategies on approved college curriculum form. In
addition, the instructor will develop, revise and maintain
classroom/ laboratory policies, grading structures, and strategies.
This instructor will review, evaluate and recommend textbooks for
course use.
Function as a Member of the Arts & Sciences Division
Team
Interact with colleagues, students, staff, and supervisors in a
manner which will project a positive image of the program and the
College and which promotes/facilitates instructional services such
as recruitment, placement, and orientation as assigned.
Perform Other Functions Related to Teaching Assignments
Provide a safe laboratory work environment that includes the proper
handling, storage and disposal of hazardous materials. Provide
information and data that will assist in the preparation of supply
and equipment order, course schedules, book orders, assessment of
student learning, and other necessary reports. Prepare laboratory
materials and set up lab equipment appropriate to areas of
instruction. Maintain and store equipment when not in use.
Individualized Development Plan (New Instructors)
Each new instructor will develop an individualized development plan
in cooperation with the Vice President of Instruction. Professional
Development Faculty should work with their immediate supervisor to
develop an annual plan of professional development and
improvement.
