General Summary/Purpose

The Patient Service Coordinator will handle all administrative (non-clinical) aspects of the participant encounter at the Institute for Clinical Translational Institute (ICTR), Adult Clinical Research Unit located on the East Baltimore Campus in Blalock 3. Offers friendly, courteous, and confidential assistance to every patient to ensure that the patient has a positive experience. Maintain accurate information on each patient to facilitate the patient encounter. Use automated systems to expedite patient scheduling, pre-registration, check-in, and check-out. Work with others in a team environment.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Approve/confirm CRUonline visit requests. Schedule visits in EPIC and iLabs. Process participant check-in and check-outWorks with JHH Admitting to coordinate Osler-5 in-patient admissions.
  • Works with study team to assist in scheduling participant for study visits. Obtain and/or verify participant’s demographic data by phone or in person.
  • Proactively works to fills vacancies due to cancellations or add urgent appointments. Resolves any schedule conflicts in EPIC.
  • Verify and enter pre-registration and insurance information into the computer system (if study visit includes standard of care procedures), prepare daily printed schedules.
  • Answer phones and provide routine information to callers.
  • Carries out duties and responsibilities with limited supervision. Makes decisions and establishes work priorities on essentially procedure-oriented operations.

Minimum Qualifications(Required)

High School Diploma/GED

  • One (1) year work experience in customer service required.
  • Two (2) years related work experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical insurance coverage preferred.
  • Medical terminology, and basic computer skills preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with EPIC is highly preferred,

Two years college or equivalent work experience.

Two years related work experience preferred. Knowledge of medical insurance coverage preferred.

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Medical terminology, basic computer skills

Certification in appropriate skill groups must be obtained during introductory period.

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
