General Summary/Purpose:

The Sr. Research Program Coordinator will oversee the implementation of three grants, including support of work related to the Key Populations Investment Fund:Toeffectively support HIV prevention and treatment programs for key populations, this project involves 1) capacity-building of country-level stakeholders, supporting evidence-based approaches to address data gaps in HIV response through workshops and ongoing technical assistance 2) systematic review, synthesis, quality assessment and dissemination of all available key populations HIV-related data, including data characterizing HIV prevalence, incidence, the HIV treatment cascade, stigma, violence, and population size estimation data in countries across West Africa, Central Africa, and Southern Africa 3) Collaborate with implementing partners of KPIF to develop and implement a program evaluation strategy to inform implementation and epidemic control. Other project activities include assessing the impact of Covid-19 and pandemic response on HIV service provision and uptake in selected countries, the results of which will be used to identify optimally effective implementation strategies during pandemic response and development of best practices. Countries in scope for the focus of the above projects include South Africa, Ghana, Liberia, Malawi, Nigeria, Zambia among others.

Specific Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Developing The position will be based in Baltimore and includes a focus on program management related to the effective and on-time implementation of research projects on HlV among key populations including men who have sex with men and female sex workers in sub-Saharan Africa.

Project management:

  • Develop project management plans and timelines with key milestones, proposal and standard operating procedures. Closely monitor adherence to these plans to ensure milestones and deliverables are met by closely coordinating multiple faculty members from Johns Hopkins as well as implementing partners and community-based organizations.
  • Manage multiple priorities, short-term and long-term deadlines concurrently, including managing the scientific and administrative design and implementation of projects.
  • Draft and prepare annual and quarterly program reports and work plans. Serve as a liaison with JHSPH and external funders and partners.
  • Provide high quality management and coordination of projects through a high level of organization, accuracy, interpersonal and communication skills sensitive to the needs of project sponsors, host institution and partner organizations. Proactively build relationships with the project team, contractors, and other related personnel and partners.
  • Draft and prepare annual and quarterly program reports and workplans. Serve as a liaison with JHSPH and external funders and partners.
  • Collaboratively develop research plans and study instruments for submission to the Johns Hopkins University IRB office and local country offices. Monitor IRB applications and manage IRB-related study communication. As part of the study team, develop operations manuals.
  • Assist with recruiting, interviewing, training, monitoring and mentoring /supervision of project interns and students.
  • Lead conduct of systematic reviews, database development and management using REDCap and Covidence
  • Collaborate with financial staff in the preparation and tracking of activity budgets and subcontracts. Develop study budgets with the principal investigator and monitor budget expenditures.
  • Identify and implement improvements to project efficiency (better and faster ways to accomplish tasks, as well as opportunities for reducing costs)

Dissemination activities:

  • Write reports, fact sheets; write or contribute to conference abstracts and peer-reviewed manuscripts through quantitative and/or qualitative data analysis and writing; contribute text,
  • conduct literature review, format references, prepare paper for submission and submit
  • Prepare and deliver presentations
  • Prepare other dissemination products as needed

Grant development:

  • Support for grant development and submissions in response to requests for proposal from federal and international funding mechanisms, including management of budgetary and financial, non-scientific, partner and collaborator, and scientific documents,

Support other work of the Key Populations Program:

  • Participate in calls with collaborators
  • Assist with other projects as requested
  • Participate in meetings with guests and stakeholders.
  • Organize project meetings, conferences, seminars, and events. Draft content for and regularly update a description of the project on the Center
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field required.
  • Three (3) years of related experiencerequired.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

JHU Equivalency Formula:18 graduate degree credits (semester hours) may substitute for one year of experience.For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Epidemiology or related field.

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience with GIS software an asset
  • Experience working with Ministries of Health in Africa and Asia an asset
  • Experience collaborating with WHO and NGOs desirable
