JOB DESCRIPTION

The University of Indianapolis (UIndy) invites applications for a tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor in Secondary Education. This is a full-time position appointment in the School of Education beginning in August 2021 in Indianapolis, IN.

The UIndy School of Education is known for its strong reputation for producing great teachers and partnering with nearby innovative schools and districts. The recent launch of a cutting-edge clinically based Secondary Education program provides its very sought-after graduates with expertise in literacy, equity and inclusion, instructional technologies and an immersive second language experience. Its well-regarded Master of Arts in Teaching also prepares graduates to meet the needs of today’s diverse classrooms. A strong collaborative relationship with the Shaheen College of Arts and Science is a hallmark of our program.

Required qualifications include an earned Doctorate in Education (ABD will be considered with a finish date). Preference will be given to individuals with a Doctorate in Secondary Education Social Studies Education, Special Education, or English Education. Experience and prior licensure in social studies education or English education is of highest preference. Successful experience and recommendations of at least five years’ teaching in middle or high school settings is desired.

The successful applicant will teach courses such as data literacy for secondary teachers, instructional methods, schools in diverse settings, as well as supervise undergraduate and master’s students in field experiences (clinical course-related and student teaching) and mentor multiple students through the development of individual projects. The successful applicant must be willing to teach courses on campus, in clinical settings, and in on-line environments as well as to teach occasional evenings and Saturdays as needed. An active scholarly research agenda, including publications and presentations, will be expected. This position is highly collaborative thus the successful applicant will engage with faculty, students, and school and community partners in a manner that highlights creativity, collegiality, and innovation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teach courses such as data literacy for secondary teachers, instructional methods, and schools in diverse settings
  • Supervise undergraduate and masters students in field experiences (clinical course-related and student teaching)
  • Mentor multiple students through the development of individual projects
  • Maintain an active scholarly research agenda, including publications and presentations
  • Engage with faculty, students, and school and community partners in a manner that highlights creativity, collegiality, and innovation


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Doctorate in Education required (ABD will be considered with a finish date)
  • At least five years of successful experience teaching in middle or high school settings desired
  • Expertise in secondary education assessment practices and data literacy is preferred
  • Expertise in Social Studies Education, Special Education, or English Education is preferred
  • Knowledge in integrating technology, instructional design, philosophy of education, and multicultural education preferred
  • Ability and willingness to travel to and teach UIndy courses in 6-12 clinical sites preferred
  • Doctorate in Secondary Education Social Studies Education, Special Education, or English Education preferred
  • Experience and prior licensure in social studies education or English education are strongly preferred
  • Evidence of excellent communication and collaboration skills particularly working with groups such as faculty, university students, K-12 partners, 6-12 grade students, and community partners preferred
