JOB DESCRIPTION

The Department of Philosophy & Religion invites applications for a tenure-track position in philosophy at the Assistant Professor rank. This is a full-time faculty position carrying a 4-4 teaching load with a start date of August 2021. Teaching and service responsibilities are carried out annually across nine-months, while salary is paid over 12 months. The search committee is especially interested in candidates who, through their research, teaching, and/or service, will contribute to the diversity and excellence of our academic community.

Responsibilities include teaching courses primarily for the undergraduate general education philosophy curriculum, with some opportunity for teaching upper divisional philosophy courses. Ability to develop and teach freshman writing-focused seminars in philosophy, philosophy honors courses and/or interdisciplinary courses desirable, especially those with an ethics focus. The successful candidate is expected to be committed to high quality classroom teaching, carry out an ongoing research agenda and provide service to the department and University.

Applicants will be asked to upload as a part of their application a cover letter, CV, writing sample, teaching portfolio (statement of teaching philosophy, evaluations, sample syllabi and other relevant instructional materials), and unofficial transcript (highest degree earned). Additionally, three letters of recommendation should be sent by email to Gwen Thomas (thomasgm@uindy.edu), Administrative Assistant, and Dr. Jonathan Evans (jevans@uindy.edu), Chair of the Department of Philosophy and Religion and Professor of Philosophy.
