Position Summary

The Non-Credit Instructor within the IST simulation lab will facilitate the learning of technical curriculum. Topics including, but not limited to, AC/DC electrical systems, Electric Motor Control, Electrical Wiring Systems, Rotating Electric Machines VFDs, PLCs, Fluid power (Hydraulic and Pneumatic), Mechanical Drives, Pumps, Robotics, Vibration analysis. The IST Non-Credit Instructor plays an essential role in helping participants to connect concepts with real world applications. This position helps participants navigate potential course obstacles and gain an understanding of how classroom content is applied directly to their workforce development related field.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

INSTRUCTION AND PROGRAM SUPPPORT

Facilitates learning in a high-tech lab which includes computer-based modules. Responsible for self-paced printed material and extensive hands-on activities. Performs routine maintenance on high-tech systems; checks for completeness and accuracy of students' timely performance of hands-on labs; collaborates with other team members to assure program success and sustainability; interfaces with key targeted companies and individuals to assure companies and individuals meet their goals. Assists students with curriculum and administers assessments.

CUSTOMER SERVICE AND CLASSROOM SUPPORT

Maintains continual contact with students, and maintains good public relations with client organizations, IST participants and others. Monitors work performed by IST participants, provides guidance regarding work methods and standards, and provides direction to help ensure that work is completed timely and in accordance with College and program standards.

LAB AND EQUIPMENT MAINTENACE

Prepares training station prior to participant arrival. Ensures that the equipment is in good repair and that all needed supplies are available.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Regularly completes IST course work in addition to attending professional training and development as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Typical office/academic environment. Regular exposure to moderate noise typical to business offices. Must travel to various Columbus State campuses and sites.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of: Knowledge of electric motor control, process control, AC/DC fundamentals; motor alignment, frequency testing, hydraulics, pneumatics, power distribution, Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), mechanical drives, mechanisms, electronics and/or automation control. Basic awareness of adult learning theory, fundamental robotics, and welding principles a plus.

Skilled in: Skill in verbal and written communications; operation of job-related equipment; problem solving; organizational skills; work in a team atmosphere.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School diploma or GED with at least one (1) year of related work experience. State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s). An appropriate combination of education, training, coursework and experience may qualify a candidate.
