Position Summary and Responsibilities
The Family Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant/Clinical Facilitator of Gynecological and Gender-Affirming Services (FNP/PA) position will work as a healthcare provider in the medical clinic and will be responsible for the facilitation of gynecological and gender-affirming clinical services at Vassar College. This position will be directly engaged with day-to-day patient care in the medical, gynecologic and gender-affirming clinics. The FNP/PA will collaborate with administrative leadership to continuously improve the patient experience and patient access to available services. This position will develop and implement clinical workflow refinements based on best practices. The FNP/PA will ensure practice compliance with all DOH regulations, policies and procedures and will work with off-campus partners to provide continuity of care, especially in regard to gynecologic and gender-affirming services.
Responsibilities:
- Provide high quality, professional patient care both in-person
and virtually to medical, gynecological and gender-affirming
patients. Ensure proper documentation of all assessments,
treatments and patient responses.
- Ordering customary laboratory, radiological and diagnostic
studies per practice protocols, differentiating between
normal/abnormal findings and following protocols for abnormal
findings, which may include referral to off-campus resources or to
the supervising physician. Following up on patients after procedure
or office visit.
- Serve as a liaison with off-campus healthcare centers and
practices to ensure appropriate and seamless patient care and
access to patient services.
- Assist in the development of an on-campus STI/HIV
clinic.
- Assist in the creation of an LGBTQ+ friendly healthcare clinic
which will include staff training and professional
development.
- Collaboration with leadership to ensure proper
gyn/gender-affirming patient care protocols are being follow by all
staff. Update protocols as clinically indicated.
- Work with leadership on optimizing workflows and staffing
models to continually improve clinical operations
- Assist in the training of all clinical and ancillary staff to
provide quality patient care.
- Develop and regularly update training curricula for clinical
and ancillary staff, including nurses, medical assistants, advanced
practice providers, and medical office assistants.
- Provide mentorship and guidance for staff
development.
- Participate in quality, safety, and leadership meetings as
appropriate.
- Review all policies and protocols to maintain quality control
and patient safety.
- Support the mission, philosophy standards, goals and objectives
of the institution and department.
- Collaborate with supervising physician when needed and engaging
in regular chart reviews with supervising physician to maintain
high quality documentation standards.
- Assist the department in the day-to-day clinical operations
which may include performing phlebotomy, administering injections,
responding to patient calls or emails, performing outreach to
patients going to ER/Urgent Care, performing virtual check-ins on
COVID positive individuals, assisting with contact tracing,
obtaining COVID-19 antigen or PCR tests on close contacts of a
COVID-19 case.
- Maintain current expertise in area of practice.
- Take calls one night per week and one weekend (Friday 5:00 p.m.
through Monday 8:30 a.m.) per month, or based on departmental
needs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years of clinical
practice in GYN.
- A current Registered Nurse and Family Nurse Practitioner
license or Physician Assistant license in the State of New
York.
- Current AHA BLS CPR certification required.
- National accrediting board certification required.
- PALS and ACLS certification preferred. DEA licensure
preferred.
- Progressive leadership skills; ability to develop, guide,
motivate, and coach others.
- Ability to develop and apply patient care processes toward
achievement of specific outcomes and for patient
satisfaction.
- Participation in institutional or departmental committees as
necessary.
- Evidence of excellent interpersonal skills; effective
communication skills and creative problem-solving
ability.
- Proficiency in electronic health record documentation with
knowledge of Medicat preferred.
- Must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the
department and institution.
- Ability to take calls one night per week and one weekend (Friday 5:00 p.m. through Monday 8:30 a.m.) per month, or based on departmental needs.
