Description

This term faculty position entails bilingual-biliterate (Japanese/English) translation, research, and operations support in the Institute for Daisaku Ikeda Studies in education and teaching four courses in degree and credential programs in the Department of Leadership, Language, and Curriculum, including, inter alia, programs in Value-Creating Education for Global Citizenship, Bilingual-Bicultural Education, Curriculum Studies, etc.

This faculty will assist with growing demands relating to the Institute for Daisaku Ikeda Studies in Education, the degree and credential programs in Value-Creating Education for Global Citizenship, and College doctoral students in Ikeda/Soka studies in education, such as providing dissertational support; curricular programming; and initiating and responding to curricular, professional, and empirical engagements with K-12 schools and post-secondary institutions. Other responsibilities include working with the Institute director to advance research and translation projects, organize events, and coordinate doctoral assistants. This faculty will serve on dissertation committees and support doctoral research in Ikeda/Soka studies, network with emerging and established scholars external to DePaul who are involved in Ikeda/Soka studies, engage with K-12 and post-secondary institutions for curricular and professional development and research initiatives, and support operations for the Institute’s credential programs in Value-Creating Education for Global Citizenship, including student recruitment and retention. This position is contingent upon available funding.

NOTE: This term (non-tenure track) faculty position is dependent on funding from non-university sources and the employment offer to fill this position is contingent on receipt of that external funding .  The selected candidate for this position will be employed on special contract, and faculty on such this contract will not be eligible for tenure.

Chū: Kono ninki (tenyuatorakku igai) no kyōin no pojishon wa, daigaku igai no shikin-gen kara no shikin ni izon shite ori, kono pojishon o umeru tame no koyō no mōshide wa, sono gaibu shikin no juryō o jōken to shite imasu. Kono pojishon ni eraba reta kōho-sha wa tokubetsu keiyaku de koyō sa re, sono yōna keiyaku no kyōin wa tenyua no shikaku ga arimasen.

Qualifications

Requirements include a completed doctorate in Value-Creating Education for Global Citizenship or related field, a record of scholarly publications and translations in Ikeda/Soka studies in education, including a record of translating primary works by Tsunesaburo Makiguchi, Josei Toda, and Daisaku Ikeda. Requirements also include a record of teaching and curriculum development in Ikeda/Soka studies in education, particularly related to the Japanese and English primary and secondary literature in the field and the educational philosophies and practices of Josei Toda. A record of excellence teaching in online (synchronous and asynchronous), hybrid, and in-person modalities is also required. The candidate must have oral and written fluency in at least English and Japanese and operations experience in a university center dedicated to Ikeda/Soka studies in education. The candidate should also have credentialed experience teaching at the K-12 level, preferably in bilingual contexts.
