HELP START A GLOBAL CONVERSATION IN APPLIED ETHICS

Introduce a general audience to the ethical dilemmas posed by the proposition that “all things have ethical standing.” This is a collaboration between the nation’s leading center for international ethical studies and an audio drama producer to bring nuanced, contemporary ethical issues into a public conversation. We seek a comparative ethicist conversant with Levinas, Heidegger, Eastern thought and, preferably, familiarity with the work of Silvia Benso in The Face of Things. This collaboration will publish a short online program in ethical studies this spring.

SELECTION PROCEDURE:

Applications will be screened by senior staff of the collaborators.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE:

  • Prepare curriculum and three 20-min. lectures that are relevant, insightful, and engaging that support learning in a general student population.
  • Lead one 40-min. panel discussion and one 40-min. debate, both with 20 min. Q&A, on comparative ethics, focused on the proposition that “all things have standing” in its historical perspective and raising the issues (for being and applied ethics) that this suggests.
  • Lead three 30-min. student interactions online.
  • Answer written questions from students once a week for two months. Refer students to appropriate bibliographies and online resources.
  • Work closely with Program Chair/Lead Scholar (as appropriate).
  • Abide by the appropriate policies and procedures contained in the Council’s Employee Handbook.
  • Estimated work time: preparation of the curriculum plus 20 hours.
  • Contractor position.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum Requirements: Master's Degree in Philosophy, Ethics, Humanities, Religion, or subfield.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Sensitivity to diversity in student population.
  • Experience with Google and Zoom collaboration tools and fluency with standard office tools.
  • Online teaching experience preferred.
  • Official Transcripts verifying qualifications will be REQUIRED prior to an offer of engagement.

Fellowship engagement starts immediately.

APPLICATION PROCESS:

To apply, please send CV to: info@fightersteel.com (Subject: Carnegie Council Fellowship) AND a brief cover letter explaining your familiarity with the scholars mentioned in this fellowship description.
