Position Summary:

The University of Richmond seeks a collaborative leader to serve as its next University Registrar. The University Registrar is a senior leader in Academic Affairs, reporting to the Vice President for Planning and Policy. The Registrar has responsibility for the academic records for all students and alumni and serves as a key advisor on issues related to academic policy, compliance, and student record data. The Registrar assists with implementation of the University's academic program, partnering with faculty to ensure effective implementation of academic policy and processes to support a myriad of academic activities including curricular approvals, registration, classroom assignment, collecting and recording grades, and access to information for degree audit and advising. The Registrar also collaborates closely with offices across campus to ensure effective academic operations and support data-informed decision-making. The Registrar oversees a talented staff of ten that provides services to faculty, staff, students, and alumni in all five of the University's schools -- Arts & Sciences, the Robins School of Business, the Jepson School of Leadership Studies, the School of Professional and Continuing Studies, and the Law School.

As the University's institutional data steward for all student records, the Registrar brings extensive knowledge of rules, regulations, accreditation standards and professional best practices pertaining to student records. The Registrar oversees the University's compliance with federal and state law in the management and confidentiality of student records, serving as the University's FERPA compliance officer. The Registrar certifies all certificates, associate, baccalaureate, and advanced degrees; oversees all student enrollment certification processes, including student eligibility for honors, participation in intercollegiate athletics, and eligibility for veteran's educational benefits; and is responsible for diploma production for all certified degrees. The successful candidate will have proven skills in dealing with a variety of highly confidential information, records, and sensitive situations in an effective and professional manner.

In an increasingly complex technology environment, the University Registrar provides leadership to support the appropriate use of student record data in academic operations and data analysis, including the use of student data across multiple tools and systems at the University. By ensuring the integrity of student record data and providing expertise on matters related to student records and reporting, the Registrar provides important leadership in support of data-informed decision-making at the institution.

The Registrar also serves as a strategic partner to faculty and academic leadership as they innovate the curriculum and implement programs to enhance a Richmond education. The Registrar provides institutional and regulatory knowledge on issues related to curricular change and academic policy interpretation, and works with deans and department chairs to coordinate the process of curriculum change, developing transition plans and publications as necessary. The Registrar administers the evaluation of transfer credits, domestic and international, providing knowledge of U.S. educational systems and credentials and comparability of curriculums, educational equivalents and institutional admission and degree requirements to their work.

The Registrar (or their delegate) serves on or chairs a variety of academic and University committees, including the University Academic Program Committee, the Substantive Change Committee, the General Education Committee, and the Readmission Committee. The Registrar is responsible for managing all University classroom space, tracking and reporting on classroom utilization, and leading the Classroom Committee to ensure regular renovation to the University's teaching spaces.

As a senior leader in academic affairs, the Registrar promotes policies and practices that support the University's commitment diversity, equity and inclusion and manages the Office of the Registrar in a way that reflects those values. The Registrar is responsible for processing and ensuring equitable adjudication of student requests for waivers of University policy by the appropriate official or committee. The successful candidate will have a proven ability to inspire trust with colleagues, students, and University leadership.

Position Qualifications:

Candidates will be expected to have a Master's degree in a relevant field and at least five years of increasing responsibility in higher education administration directly related to student records. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a record of accomplishment in supporting the academic mission through expert advice and effective administration of academic policies and processes, superior analytical and problem-solving skills, and proven ability to lead and mentor a high-performing staff. Candidates are also expected to have experience with and understanding of integrated information systems, data structure, and the relationships among various institutional data systems

Salary is commensurate with experience and market analysis. This position will be based in Richmond; relocation support is available.
