Assistant Director of Development for The Brady Urological Institute Summary of Responsibilities:

The Assistant Director will play a lead role in supporting the activities of The Brady’s Annual Fund and stewardship efforts, and raise financial resources for the faculty and programmatic priorities of The Brady. In this role, the Assistant Director will oversee the Office of Annual Giving/Medical Annual Giving activities in coordination with the Brady development team, including creating and updating materials and ensuring that all outreach encompasses meaningful communication. This position will manage the stewardship of Brady endowments and mandatory stewardship donors, as well as communications updating our constituents on programmatic advancements. The Assistant Director will also participate in the solicitation of annual gifts ($250 to $25,000), and occasional major gifts, in support of The Brady through calls and visits and through work with gift officers, faculty and administrators. Finally, the Assistant Director will partner with faculty and provide support to The Brady’s Division of Reconstructive Urology to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward donors and prospects.

Specific Responsibilities:

  1. Develop a comprehensive understanding of the research, teaching and clinical programs and priorities of Johns Hopkins University, the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, and The Brady Urological Institute, in order to represent these needs both internally and externally.
  • Manage a portfolio of approximately 135 donors and prospects with the goal to personally solicit, or arrange for volunteer or institutional solicitation. Engage the donors and prospects as appropriate, whether via discovery, cultivation, or stewardship. The primary focus will be on gifts in the range of $250 to $25,000.
  • Serve as primary development liaison to 2-4 urology faculty members. Hold recurring meetings to encourage faculty participation in development activities; secure faculty referrals for potential patient/prospects; coordinate faculty participation in prospect solicitations and stewardship. Keep development team current on faculty research initiatives and funding priorities.
  • Complete 50 or more meaningful prospect and donor substantive interactions per year. Performance targets also include benchmarks for funds raised, proposals developed and submitted, and portfolio penetration, among others.
  • Manage the stewardship of Brady Professorship and endowment donors, mandatory stewardship donors, and group stewardship communications to provide meaningful updates on the activities that advance our mission. Manage financial reporting for stewardship purposes, and track stewardship movement in ALADIN Relationship Management.
  • Prepare proposals, outreach and solicitation letters, and other cultivation and informational material for prospects and donors.
  • Serve as the main point of contact from The Brady for the Office of Annual Giving/Medical Annual Giving, including coordinating the execution of renewal and acquisition mailings and emails to The Brady’s donors and patients.
  • In coordination with Brady gift officers, place calls for gifts of $250+ to thank and qualify for gift officers. Participate in annual fund donor visits as well as strategy discussions about prospect identification and pipeline building.
  • Represent The Brady on the Donor Relations Liaison Group and other institutional groups as appropriate.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.
  • Background Experience and Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree required. Two years related development experience required. Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
    • Ability to work independently, manage and prioritize multiple projects, and maintain a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality.
    • Excellent writing, editorial and verbal communication skills.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team.
    • Experience working with broadly diverse groups of constituents such as donors, alumni, patients, faculty, department directors, hospital and university administration, fundraising colleagues and/or institutional leadership preferred.
    • Strong computer literacy skills with the ability to learn new software, as well as familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Demonstrated initiative, diplomacy and a cooperative work ethic within a professional team.
    • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
    • Knowledge of Johns Hopkins Medicine and/or development operations highly desirable.
    • Ability to travel and work occasional evening or weekend hours.

    JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
