Research Data Analyst

General Summary/Purpose

Under supervision ofthe Principle Investigator, the Research Data Analyst creates, manages, performs analyses, and reports on research data pertaining to prostate cancer genetics and genomics. Data types include but not limited to baseline and follow-up clinical data, lab-based long-read, and traditional sequencing data.Collaborate with othercomputational biologists andinvestigators instudy design, execution, andpreparation of presentations and publications.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

    Develop data collection and analysis methodology, including defining data requirements, data sources and proper data collection procedures. Develop and implement data collection quality assurance procedures to ensure validity and reliability of study results. Write computer code to evaluate study designs and to accomplish the actual analyses. Create, build and maintain databases, records and files. Utilize knowledge of statistical and quantitative analysis to perform data analysis and interpretation. Prepare written reports of data analyses, including relevant methods, processes, input parameters, references, results, and conclusions, and presents findings Write methods and analysis sections for research proposals, and contribute to writing sections of manuscripts and publications Participate in meetings with study investigators and team and prepares progress reports as needed. Maintain appropriate database management systems. Keep abreast of technical and academic resources and advances related to the methodology. Adaptable to changing trends and technologies and commitment to learning new methods and techniques. Perform miscellaneous related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

    Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline such as data science, mathematics, applied mathematics, informatics, and computational biology. 3 years related experience.

    Additional education may substitute for required experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula:

For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job. *

Preferred Qualifications

    Master’s degree in a discipline. Experienced in longitudinal studies of cancer patients and/or other cancer-related studies including study design and data analysis.

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    Thorough understanding of computers. Proficiency in at least one programming language is required. Proficiency in multiple languages, including R, Python, C++, Java, MATLAB, HIVE, SQL, and PHP is desired. Familiarity with or ability to learn the use of data management tools such as SAS, Oracle Visual Analyzer, Microsoft Power BI, Cognos, Tableau. Knowledge of statistics and expertise in linear algebra and multivariate calculus. Knowledge in biological sciences including molecular biology. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team. Ability to work in a dynamic fast-paced environment and respond quickly to changing priorities. Ability to multi-task, prioritize projects and adhere to deadlines.

Able to see within normal parameters and to hear within normal range. Able to move about. Able to lift minimum weight, 10 lbs.

Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
