Position Purpose
Design, manage, and/or conduct research projects that align with the educational mission of the school and institutional priorities. Support data-informed decision-making centered on the student experience across diverse identities, backgrounds, activities and interests. Consult and collaborate with colleagues to support smaller-scale research and data analysis.
Key Accountabilities
● Create, align and adjust long- and short-term research agendas to support institutional priorities with a particular focus on the educational mission.
● Advise, train, and build relationships with colleagues in various departments and committees to help develop consistent skills, mindset, and coherent approaches to research across campus.
● Demonstrate respect for diversity of identities and experiences, an orientation toward equity and inclusion, and cultural competency in all aspects of Academy life.
● Develop research protocols and key metrics to ensure research is rigorous, beneficial, and ethical with particular attention to best practices regarding respect for and contextual awareness of identities.
● Support student-led research related to coursework and/or co-curricular projects.
● Coordinate Exeter’s participation in external surveys and opportunities to share and/or benchmark with peer schools and lead Exeter’s collaboration with these external organizations.
● Review and maintain a calendar of campus surveys - facilitate sharing and appropriate access to survey results across the institution.
● Engage and support faculty in inquiry-based projects designed to explore pedagogical practices.
● Serve on or support committees as required (e.g. data governance, strategic planning, facilities use, administrative).
● Participate in the development of programs, possibly within a new center for teaching and learning, to support educators and students via on-campus resources, research, and outreach.
● Coordinate the preparation and presentation of annual compilations of key school information and data, focusing on student demographics and the student experience broadly defined.
● Participate in or support research to understand the experience of adults in the school community, as requested.
● Ongoing professional development within key accountabilities is expected (and will be supported)
Position Requirements
● Education
○ Masters in social science, library science, data analytics, and/or related field
● Experience
○ 7-10 years of experience preferred in institutional research or related fields.
○ Experience at an educational institution preferred.
● Skills and Knowledge:
○ Ability to design and conduct qualitative and quantitative research to include survey design, statistical and qualitative analysis.
○ Professional expertise with data analysis and design related to race, ethnicity, gender, and other identity-based demographics.
○ Ability to manage relationships and work effectively independently and collaboratively within a team.
○ Ability to communicate with and present to a broad range of audiences verbally and in writing.
○ Familiarity with statistical and visualization tools, languages, and environments preferred (SPSS, SAS, SQL, R, Tableau, SAP Webi, etc.)
