Position Details

Effective July 1, 2021. Visiting Instructor or Assistant Professor in Spanish Medieval, Golden Age, and/or Colonial Latin American literature. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate fully in the rich interdisciplinary culture of Wesleyan University, including Medieval Studies events, the colloquium-style Renaissance Seminar, and/or the rich program of Latin American Studies events. Typical teaching load for visitors: two advanced seminars taught in Spanish and three sections of an intermediate-advanced language, literature, and culture course.

Minimum Qualifications

Native or near-native fluency in Spanish and evidence of excellence in undergraduate teaching. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in hand by the time of appointment to be hired as a Visiting Assistant Professor; a successful candidate may be hired as a Visiting Instructor if the candidate does not have a Ph.D. in hand at the time of appointment but will complete it within one year of hire.

A complete application includes a cover letter, curriculum vitae, 15-25 page writing sample in English or Spanish, a sample seminar proposal or syllabus, a teaching statement, and documentation of teaching experience. In the cover letter, applicants should describe how they will embrace the college’s commitment to fostering an inclusive community, as well as their experience working with persons from historically marginalized or underserved groups. You will also be asked to provide the email addresses of three referees from whom we will obtain confidential letters of recommendation.
