The Center for Major Exploration (CME) at Old Dominion
University is seeking candidates for the Advisor/Success Coach
(full-time, 12 month) position. This position will advise and
counsel exploratory students regarding major and course selection.
Other duties include: review and assess students’ academic
performance; supports student success, retention and progression to
graduation; provides individualized student outreach to students
who are identified at-risk; connects students to relevant campus
resources; provides coaching and support for students on an ongoing
basis; monitors and tracks progress of students; maintains
communication with faculty and staff in support of students;
support retention initiatives and provide outreach and advising
assistance to new and returning students.
Required Education: Master’s degree in higher
education, counseling, psychology, education, social work or
relevant field.
Required Qualifications: Experience in advising,
counseling, or related field. Experience in a higher education
setting, working with student focused initiatives. Demonstrated
knowledge of student development and resources to promote student
success. Demonstrated ability to interpret and explain complex
rules and regulations and/or respond to routine inquiries regarding
enrollment services functions such as admissions, registration or
financial aid. Demonstrated ability to build relationships.
Demonstrated skill in advising and counseling. Demonstrated ability
in working with diverse student populations. Strong interpersonal
skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to
relate effectively with students, institutional personnel, and the
public. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Working knowledge of
Microsoft Office Suite programs, and information systems such as
Banner or a comparable program used to edit communication
documents, enter and manipulate data, and produce or generate
reports. Demonstrated ability to conduct workshops, seminars, and
training.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience using Banner
SIS or a comparable program and CRM.
