The Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY, founded in 2006, has become nationally recognized for its innovative programs. The only public graduate journalism school in the northeastern U.S., it prepares students from diverse economic, racial, and cultural backgrounds to produce high-quality journalism.

As the profession continues to reinvent itself for the digital age, the Newmark J-School is at the forefront of equipping the next generation of journalists with the reporting, writing, interactive, technological, and entrepreneurial skills they need to find stories and tell them effectively. The school currently offers a Master of Arts in Journalism, a unique bilingual M.A. in Journalism for students fluent in English and Spanish, and the nation's first M.A. in Social Journalism.

The Information Technology Specialist (ITS) will be working in an all-Mac environment and must be able to provide expert-level Apple tech support. Operating under the general supervision of the Manager of IT Services and Support, the ITS is responsible for the management of Apple hardware, software, account management systems, user facing systems, learning environments, phones, and printers at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism. This position reports to the Manager of IT Services and Support.

Duties include but are not limited to:
- Executes expert Apple support, including (1) installation, configuration, and maintenance of Mac systems, their peripherals, and Apple mobile devices (2) analyze and perform repairs related to Mac systems (3) interact with users to help them resolve macOS and iOS queries;
- Deploys Apple equipment, perform installation of iOS or macOS operating systems and appropriate software using an MDM solution and its included applications and services— currently facilitated via Jamf Pro for policies, patch management, PreStage enrollments, configuration profiles, and package composing;
- Maintains the daily performance of Apple computers and devices, learning environments, and printers by leveraging services such as Jamf Pro and PaperCut, and monitoring hardware and software for patches and updates to ensure maximal uptime of our computing environment;
- Functions as the subject matter expert in technical areas, including Active Directory, Bourne-Again Shell, G Suite for Education, Office 365;
- Performs root cause analysis of Level 1 and 2 technical issues, including Android, Windows operating systems, and related hardware and software, and recommend solutions using a ticketing system and direct contact to end-users;
- Installs and maintains peripheral equipment, Windows-based hardware, virtualized Windows client, and a growing number of terminal services used with AP ENPS, following design or installation specifications;
- Migrates user systems to new equipment; recovers user systems from backup;
- Maintains the School’s inventory of equipment within an IT asset management system;
- Develops and maintains procedural guides required for the members of the community;
- Performs other duties as assigned.

GENERAL DUTIES

I.T. Associates perform moderately complex professional work in technology-related disciplines.  While areas of specialization vary, typically I.T. Associates work in areas such as development/programming, communications, technical support, or similar functions depending on the needs of the Information Technology area to which they report.  Work tasks include resolving complex technology problems and serving as a technical resource.   They have considerable latitude for independent initiative and judgment and may have supervisory responsibilities. 
    
I.T. Associates should demonstrate mastery of one or more technology-related disciplines.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent
  2. An equivalent of seven years of experience post-high school that can be met by one of the following: seven years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology related position; an Associate's degree plus five years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution plus three years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position
  3. Demonstrated English Language proficiency
  4. A Motor Vehicle Driver's license, valid in New York State, may be required for some, but not all positions.
       
    This job has three levels.  To qualify for Levels 2 and 3, additional qualifications, such as education, experience, or certification relevant to the area of specialization are required.

Other Qualifications:
A preferred candidate should possess the following:
- Jamf Certified Tech (Jamf 200 or Jamf 300)
- Ability to work evenings and weekends.
