Description:
This End User Support Specialist II/III position is responsible for providing end-user support to faculty, staff, and students at the Conrad Blucher Institute for Surveying and Science (CBI). They will oversee the IT resources used by CBI, including servers, virtual machines, and cloud resources. This position will routinely provide technical oversight for the application of and compliance with technical standards.
Responsibilities:
End-user Support - 60%
- PC and laptop acquisition - assess user needs, generate system specifications, review quotes, facilitate or complete purchases.
- Manage entire PC lifecycle - acquisition, setup, repair/refurbishment/reassignment and surplus.
- User support as needed to ensure CBI staff, faculty and students have the resources they need to perform necessary work.
- Interact with Campus IT (Technology Support Services), CBI faculty and staff.
System Administration - 25%
- Helps maintain, develop, and document processes and automation to maintain infrastructure services under Linux (RHEL), Windows Server OS and cloud services.
- Work closely with software developers to determine, request and manage on-premises and public cloud resources necessary to develop and maintain operational systems and support projects.
- Provision, monitor and troubleshoot communications with cellular gateways/routers.
Other - 15%
- Ensure CBI systems are compliant with the State, Texas A&M System, and University rules and regulations.
- Manage CBI IT student workers performing end-user support or system administration tasks.
- Document project and task activity using the appropriate tools.
- Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications:
Level II
- Bachelor's Degree
- Three (3) years related experience
- Additional experience may be used as a substitution for the
minimum education requirement:
- Associates degree and five (5) years related experience
- Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with a diverse range of people.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Experience with Windows, and Mac OS.
- Experience with Linux and Windows Server OSes
Level III
- Bachelor's Degree
- Five (5) years related experience
- Additional experience may be used as a substitution for the
minimum education requirement:
- Associates degree and seven (7) years related experience
- Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with a diverse range of people.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Experience with Windows, and Mac OS.
- Experience with Linux and Windows Server OSes
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supporting research projects and associated faculty, staff and students.
- Experience supporting users at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.
- Experience with scripting languages such as Bash, Powershell, Python, Perl.
- Knowledge of Linux system management
- Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) or CentOS
- Knowledge of/experience with cloud computing services
- Experience setting up and maintaining web server, database, directory and/or code versioning services such as Apache, NGINX, MySQL, Postgres, LDAP, Git
- Solid understanding of HTTP, REST, consuming web services, and related security concerns
- Mentoring and/or management experience
- Experience with project management and tools such as Trello, JIRA and Azure DevOps.
