The Department of Art & Art History at The University of Mississippi announces an opening for an Assistant Professor of Art, Digital Media. The position is a 9-month, full-time, benefits-eligible position with possibility of renewal and a starting date of August 15, 2021. The Department of Art & Art History offers a BA and BFA in studio art, BA in Art History and MFA in studio art. The University of Mississippi is located in Oxford, which is consistently ranked as one of the nation’s top college towns. The University has an R-1 Carnegie Classification and is recognized as one of the best colleges in the nation to work for by The Chronicle of Higher Education.

 

Qualifications

 

Three years of teaching experience beyond graduate school is preferred. An MFA in Studio Art with an emphasis in Digital Art/Media, Design, or related field is required at the time of appointment. The teaching load is three courses each semester with a competitive salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.

 

Responsibilities

 

Ideal candidates will possess a strong commitment to teaching a broad range of digital art classes offered within our core curriculum and have full working knowledge of the Adobe Creative Cloud software. Candidates can expect to work with undergraduate and graduate students, teach industry standard approaches to Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator each term and other more advanced courses within the expanded media curriculum. The candidate is also expected to sustain an active creative research practice. Responsibilities for this position include teaching and curriculum development of existing undergraduate digital foundation classes, maintaining the digital labs including server maintenance, student advising, and departmental/college/university service and committee involvement. Areas of knowledge and expertise may include but are not limited to current practices in: digital illustration, digital video, web design and motion graphics.

Funds are available for continued professional development, and the University offers an extremely competitive retirement plan. The initial appointment begins August 15, 2021 and may be renewed for up to two additional years by mutual agreement. Extension beyond three years will be dependent on available budget funding.
