The Associate Dean for the College of Science and Engineering reports to the Dean for the College of Science and Engineering and assumes responsibility for assisting in the leadership and management of the College including partnering with the Dean to supervise faculty and staff and manage implementation of the collective bargaining agreements. The Associate Dean assists the Dean in setting the vision and strategic direction for the College; strengthening current programs and developing new initiatives; and enhancing instruction and scholarship. Working closely with the Dean, the Associate Dean advances the mission of the university by helping create and maintain an infrastructure that fosters high quality academic programs; building strong and collaborative relationships within the College and with internal and external partners; and interpreting and implementing University and College policies and procedures. The Associate Dean assists the Dean in maintaining a fiscally-healthy college by helping to manage the budget and raise external funds. In addition, the Associate Dean assists the Dean by ensuring successful faculty and staff recruitment, professional development, and retention; and maintaining accreditation requirements in academic programs within the College. The Associate Dean serves as a member of Academic Affairs’ leadership team and works collaboratively with other college/school deans and associate deans.

Required Qualifications

  • An earned terminal degree in a discipline represented in the College of Science and Engineering
  • Minimum of 7 years of related experience including teaching in a university setting, research/scholarship, administrative leadership, budget management, faculty mentoring, accreditation, and program development
  • Academic credentials appropriate for the rank of Associate Professor/Professor in an academic discipline within the College of Science and Engineering
  • Record of achievement in teaching, research/scholarship
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets in a fiscally-responsible manner
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully lead and manage accreditation processes, program reviews, and assessment activities
  • Demonstrated ability to lead effectively
  • Demonstrated ability to effectually communicate and work with culturally-diverse students, faculty, staff, and administrators
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor faculty and support strong pedagogy and scholarship
  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion; and to developing an anti-racist college, university, and community

Preferred Qualifications

  • Earned terminal degree in the natural sciences
  • Experience at the department chair or director level in higher education
  • Experience in advocating for students, faculty, staff, and programs
  • Experience in equipment and facilities management
  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, and retaining faculty and staff
  • Experience in designing, developing, and administering a portfolio of innovative programs in response to regional, state, national, and international needs
  • Experience in internationalization of curriculum and/or programs
  • Experience in using emerging models and technologies in support of alternative approaches to delivering programming to a diverse set of constituents
  • Experience in working with external entities such as community colleges; businesses and organizations; and governmental agencies
  • Experience with external funding/grants and working with potential donors
  • Experience with academic collective bargaining
