Vice President for Finance & Operations
South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) seeks a highly
motivated and qualified individual for the position of Vice
President for Finance and Operations.

- Essential functions of the Vice President for Finance and Operations include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Implements financial, accounting and budget systems that promote financial stability, in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and federal and state regulations and guidelines, in order to maximize the college’s resources.
- Establishes a budget development process that is built on effective and responsive communication and that result in a spending plan reflective of the college’s strategic plan and core themes.
- Establishes systems and procedures that preserve the safety and integrity of the college’s financial and payroll records, and which ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality services.
- Serves as treasurer of the Board of Trustees according to RCW 28B.50.142.
- Ensures a physical environment that is clean, aesthetic, safe, well-maintained and supportive of the learning environment.
- Develops and oversees implementation of the college’s capital program, as defined in the Facilities Master Plan.
- Develops and oversees implementation of an effective Emergency Management Response program.
- Develops a leadership team that promotes innovation, accountability and excellence consistent with the college’s strategic plan, and that values collaborative efforts to achieve these goals.
- Provides cost-effective administrative support services responsive to the needs of students, faculty, staff and community.
- Ensures that all Administrative Services programs, support services, resources and systems are user-friendly for all students (credit and non-credit), faculty, and staff.
- Provides flexible, responsive and high-quality customer service to all people served, and continuously assesses processes and procedures to revise accordingly.
- Establishes self-supporting auxiliary operations which support the mission of the college and provide economical service to students, faculty, staff and community.
- Actively supports the teaching and learning process, working to create and support a student-centered environment.
- Recognizes and promotes antiracist policies and procedures in order to bring about equitable outcomes for students and staff.
- Demonstrate multicultural competence (including an awareness and understanding of historically disadvantaged populations) and create an educational and work environment that affirms a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- Support the college’s mission by creating a work environment of mutual respect and fairness, while encouraging creative and critical thinking.
- Contribute to the appreciation of diversity and foster a climate of multicultural understanding.
- Serving as an educational leader functioning as part of a senior-level management team that fosters pride and excellence at the college;
- Advancing the college’s mission, vision and core themes; setting a high standard of performance for both self and staff, promoting and supporting their achievement while modeling behavior supportive of institutional values and goals;
- Ensuring effective communication throughout both the Administrative Services area and the college community.
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in accounting, business, economics, finance, or related field.
- Ten years of progressively responsible financial administration and leadership experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience building and managing a large team, including hiring, retention, and fostering a collaborative, service-oriented culture.
- Experience working effectively with a diverse array of stakeholders such as executive leadership, governance boards, professional staff, faculty, and students.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of enterprise risk management and internal control principles.
- Demonstrated experience or participation with persons from diverse backgrounds such as sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socio-economic, physical and learning abilities, and a commitment to an inclusive and equitable working/learning environment.
- Cultural Self -- The ability to understand one's own intersectional identity and how it influences identity development and how one navigates the world.
- Cross Cultural Communication -- Verbal and nonverbal communication skills in interaction with those who are culturally different from one's self.
- Collaborative -- The ability to work in culturally diverse groups toward a common goal by involving, including and valuing others.
- Conflict Management & Engagement -- The ability to engage cultural conflicts that occur between individuals and groups.
- Servant Leadership Development -- The ability to share power, put the needs of students or employees first and help people develop and perform as highly as possible.
- Flexibility -- The ability to respond and adapt to new and changing situations.
- Direct experience with Washington State budgeting processes, legislative process, fiscal note analysis and government policy development.
- Demonstrated experience developing fiscal planning, policies, and practices that advance diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.
- Master’s degree or advanced industry-related credential.
