Position Announcement

The Atwood Innovation Plaza (AIP) is looking for an outgoing and skilled manager to oversee its makerspace activities and programs. Under the supervision of the AIP Executive Director, this position manages the day-to-day operations of the AIP’s Prototyping Lab and Makerspace, while monitoring and enforcing safety, policies, and guidelines in accordance with DSU and Innovation Plaza’s policies and procedures. This position is responsible for the management of revenue and expense systems, scheduling, material inventory, equipment maintenance and upgrades, staffing and other general operations. Responsibilities

  • Manage the collection of makerspace user revenue, scheduling, material inventory, equipment maintenance and upgrades, staffing and other general operations.
  • Develop and distribute resource materials (operations manuals and safety guidelines) on specialized equipment within the Makerspace; develop and execute training, workshops, and training materials on specialized equipment.
  • Assist users in operating manufacturing and prototyping equipment, as well as software programs.
  • Create an environment for open exchange of ideas and collaboration opportunities.
  • Manage access to and maintain records of activities of users and partners who utilize the Makerspace.
  • Perform daily checks on equipment and prepare required documents on the status of equipment, tools, supplies, repair and maintenance needs. Provide general cleanliness and security of the lab and equipment, as well as suggestions to the AIP Executive Director on lab operations, equipment and improvements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or equivalent level of technical training and use of applicable equipment, required; a degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical), Computer Science, Design or related technology fields preferred.
  • Good computer skills, including proficiency with the Internet, Email, Google Apps, and Microsoft Office. Experience in fundamental programming languages preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with high-tech specialized equipment for Makerspace and Prototype development, such as 3D modeling, rendering, and printing, as well as laser cutter, CNC, lathes, milling, injection molding, and PCB fabrication.
  • Experience using hand tools, electronics, computer software, hardware and various other technologies.
  • Ability to promote programs, solve problems and interact with individuals at all levels.
  • Experience and understanding of computer science, engineering, robotics, and/or electronics preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills; experience in delivering professional development and training preferred.
  • Familiarity in entrepreneurship and programming.
  • Ability to lift moderately heavy items (up to 50 pounds) in a recurring manner and/or standing for long periods of time, as Makerspace projects and equipment dictate.


Supplemental Information

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: Full-time professional staff (overtime-exempt) position. Annual salary of $40,000+ depending on qualifications & experience. Desired start date of May 2021.
