Job Description

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is now hiring a Housing Maintenance Technician to perform various daily general maintenance projects associated with the overall upkeep of university-managed residence halls and apartments at the Daytona Beach campus. General maintenance duties include basic painting, carpentry, electrical, and plumbing as directed.

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Prepares surfaces/supervises preparation of surfaces and applies paint to building interiors, exteriors, furnishings, equipment as directed or as regular building maintenance activities indicate need.
  • Repairs items such as shower and bath fixtures, carpet repairs, holes in plaster walls and concrete floors and other masonry repair work.
  • Constructs and repairs a wide variety of structures, using various building materials - wood, wallboard, plywood, etc.
  • Makes electrical repairs, replaces light fixtures, bulbs, switches, wall plugs, etc.
  • Performs plumbing repairs, unclogs drains, replaces faucet bushings, seats, fixes leaks, replaces sinks, commodes and shower plumbing.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on structures, furnishings and equipment.
  • Responsible for moving furniture, equipment, etc. as assigned.
  • Supervises student personnel assigned to same project. Acts as Lead Worker.
  • Requisitions through operational procedure for parts, materials and supplies necessary to perform work.
  • Leaves work site clean and orderly; insures that all tools and equipment are cleaned and materials are secured.
  • Adheres to all safety rules and regulations as listed on product and equipment labels and as directed by management.
  • Works at assigned locations in performance of job and job-related duties.
  • Notices and informs supervisor of any maintenance items that require attention.
  • Performs other job-related duties as required/assigned.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • High school (or GED) level ability in spelling, grammar, basic composition, and math.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of work related experience.
  • Analytical skills with an in depth knowledge of information systems and technical expertise with Microsoft operating systems, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook/email, and Internet end-user applications.
  • Ability to read blue prints, make simple calculations, and keep records.
  • Ability to use job-related tools and equipment.
  • Ability to distinguish colors and finishes.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license. Must meet the University’s standards for approved drivers. Unacceptable driving records (as stated in the Use of Equipment and Vehicles Procedure 1.17) include the following (for three years from the date of each occurrence):
    • More than 3 moving violations and/or accidents in 3 years
    • More than 2 moving violations and/or accidents in any 1 year
    • A major conviction in the last 3 years, including (but not limited to) driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving, and/or homicide or assault by motor vehicle.
  • Understanding and general knowledge of hazardous chemicals and OSHA standards.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds and handle/move tools and materials. Must be able to properly operate power tools.
  • Ability to climb ladders and/or scaffolding and work in overhead areas.
