Postdoctoral Appointment in Innovation and Technology in China

Department: Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation (IGCC), School of Global Policy and Strategy, UC San Diego
Salary: Commensurate with experience
Appointment: 12 months (extendable by 12-24 months)
Start date: April 1, 2021
Location: UC San Diego, La Jolla, CA

The UC Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation (IGCC) invites applications for a one-year Postdoctoral Research Employee position in the area of innovation and technology in China, with the possibility of a one-year reappointment. Preference will be given to candidates with extensive expertise on Chinese aerospace issues

In addition to carrying out their own research, the appointee will work on the IGCC study on Innovation and Technology in China under the supervision of Professor Tai Ming Cheung at IGCC.

Postdoctoral responsibilities will primarily include:
1. Designing, planning, and performing intensive and independent research using English and Chinese language materials of general and specialized topics that include science and technology policy, Chinese politics, and International Relations-related issues.
2. Writing detailed analyses on Chinese science and technology policy using original Chinese language sources as well as English language sources, especially on Chinese aerospace topics.
3. Conducting detailed analysis using qualitative and quantitative methodologies.
4. Conducting Internet-based research, reviewing printed publications, and analyzing content of English and Chinese language materials (books, journals, magazines, newpapers, unpublished academic thesis, government statistical data, etc.) and determining their context relevance and use for research.
5. Producing data summaries and graphical representations of analyzed data for grant submissions, conference posters, and manuscripts.

The candidate must have their PhD in a relevant field.
