Position Summary and Responsibilities
The Director of the Support, Advocacy, & Violence Prevention (SAVP) Office at Vassar College is a private on-campus resource that oversees the implementation of survivor-centered support and advocacy to individuals impacted by sexual violence and relationship abuse. The Director of SAVP provides supervision and support to the SAVP Program Coordinator in the development of violence prevention training and workshops for students. The Director also works with student interns to develop survivor-centered programming and prevention education for members of the Vassar College community. The Director will report to the Associate Dean of the College for Student Living & Wellness and serve as a member of the Student Living & Wellness core management team.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and oversee campus-wide programming and educational efforts to address issues of campus-based sexual violence.
  • Provide private and trauma-informed advocacy and support services for individual survivors of sexual violence, relationship abuse, stalking, and/or sexual harassment.
  • Train, supervise, and oversee Vassar's SAVP Advocates, a group of trained employees who provide 24/7 on-call support and advocacy services to survivors on campus.
  • Supervise and train SAVP Program Coordinator, SAVP Administrative Fellow, SAVP student interns, and peer-to-peer support groups.
  • Chair the SAVP Committee, a multidisciplinary group dedicated to addressing and promoting a cultural shift in the norms associated with sexual assault, relationship violence, and stalking on campus.
  • Coordinate and implement large scale trainings and workshops for the campus community focusing on topics such as: bystander intervention, healthy relationships, consent education, and supporting a survivor.
  • Develop collaborative partnerships with various offices on campus to ensure that all offices are providing trauma-informed advocacy and support services for individual survivors of sexual violence, relationship abuse, stalking, and sexual harassment.
  • In collaboration with the Title IX Office, Office of Health Promotion & Education, Athletics, Residential Education, and other campus departments, coordinate violence prevention educational efforts and conduct training for students and employees, including orientation programming and required annual training for student athletes and student leaders.
  • Develop inclusive and culturally specific programming that is responsive to the needs of all members of the college community.
  • Collaborate with on and off campus groups and organizations to improve accessibility and use of available services to survivors.
  • Maintain knowledge of and collaboration with community resources.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of Title IX Campus Climate surveys, assessments, and program evaluations pertaining to sexual violence.
  • Report statistical data for the purposes of Clery Act reporting.
  • Maintain budget.


Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Student Affairs, Public Health, or related field.
  • Three to five years experience in the field of sexual and interpersonal violence prevention and response, preferably in a college setting.
  • Experience working with survivors of sexual violence and/or relationship abuse as a support person/advocate.
  • Demonstrated crisis response skills.
  • Professional staff supervision experience.
  • Proven ability to work sensitively with a diverse student body and ability to lead programming and address the specific needs of particular student groups and communities (e.g., LGBTQ students, transgender and queer identifying students, students of color, international students, student athletes, among others).
  • Expertise and understanding of trauma-informed approaches and best practices.
  • Strong knowledge of principles, research, and best practices as they relate to primary prevention and response in a college setting.
  • Demonstrated training in evidence-based prevention programs, such as Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP), Green Dot, and/or Bringing in the Bystander, or similar programming.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including experience working on a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in public speaking skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and community-building skills.
  • Must be able to travel to office and community partner sites (police departments, hospitals, courts, etc.).
