Associate Dean for Undergraduate Nursing

College of Nursing and Public Health

JOB SUMMARY:

The Associate Dean for Undergraduate is administratively responsible for assuring the highest quality of academic programs and student services. The Associate Dean for Undergraduate Nursing is responsible for the academic integrity of the College of Nursing and Public Health's (CNPH) undergraduate nursing programs including the development of curricular and program innovations and CCNE accreditation processes. The Associate Dean promotes a student body that represents diversity and academic excellence, advances innovative pedagogy, fosters an environment that supports student achievement, and retention, and provides leadership in curricula and program development, implementation, evaluation, and accreditation. This position support faculty development and leadership development of programmatic Chairs and directors. The Associate Dean for Undergraduate Nursing, is a key member of the Dean's leadership team and will provide strategic insight and assists the Dean and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in setting College and institutional goals.

REPORTS TO: Dean

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

In collaboration with the Dean and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs:
  1. Assists in developing the CNPH's strategic agenda related to the College's academic programs in alignment with AU strategic plan- Momentum.
  2. Consults with faculty and other communities of interest to make recommendations to accomplish the mission, goals, and expected programs outcomes.
  3. Initiates curricular innovations with faculty and other constituents as appropriate.
  4. Work closely with Assistant Dean for Clinical Partnerships to explore opportunities for developing or enhancing partnerships, joint projects and mutually beneficial academic initiatives.
  5. Collaborates to foster inter-professional education.
  6. Seeks external financial resources to accomplish the academic mission.
  7. Meets regularly with the school's undergraduate nursing chairs and program directors to monitor the academic programs they oversee.
  8. Meets with undergraduate nursing faculty and students to interpret educational policy.
  9. Guides faculty in implementing and evaluating evidence- based teaching methods.
  10. Oversees completion of evaluations for the CNPH's courses, programs of instruction, and teaching faculty.
  11. Communicates the results of those evaluations to accountable parties (e.g., Academic Affairs Committee, Dean, Evaluation Committee and faculty).
  12. Accountable for undergraduate nursing accreditation and regulatory compliance. Completes periodic reports on academic programs to internal and external groups, including regional and national professional accrediting bodies on behalf of the College.
  13. Provides oversight and guidance to NCLEX Success Network to assure continued improvement of annual first time pass rates.

REQUIREMENTS: (Knowledge, skills and abilities)
  1. Doctoral preparation- Research doctorate preferred.
  2. Scholarship and program of research sufficient to be appointed at the rank of Associate Professor.
  3. Graduate level degree (master's or doctorate) in nursing.
  4. NYS RN licensure or eligible.
  5. Four years of relevant experience in academic nursing education in an administrative or leadership role.
  6. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  7. Ability to work under tight timeframes and to manage multiple projects.

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  1. A bachelor's and master's degree in nursing and an earned doctorate in nursing or related field required.
  2. Progressive leadership experience in nursing education and curriculum development preferably at the undergraduate level.
  3. Prior experience in CCNE accreditation processes.
  4. Demonstrated leadership abilities, managerial skills, creativity, ability to make timely decisions, to collaborative effectively, and to be open to the ideas of others and to constructive feedback.
  5. Management of simulation and clinical lab centers preferable.
  6. Active in professional organizations at regional or national levels.
