Position Information

This is a Temporary and/or hourly intermittent appointment. No probationary period. No permanent status is granted.

Conditions of Employment

Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Possession of a valid Driver's License is required. Employees in this position will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice Program which confirms possession of a valid driver's license and reflects driving record.

The person holding this position is considered a `mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

The salary range for this classification is: $2,705 - $4,501 monthly.

Department: University Police, Parking & Transportation Services

The California State University, Dominguez Hills Police Department provides a safe campus conducive to education for the University's students, faculty, staff, and visitors. University Police accomplishes its mission by encouraging community awareness and providing proactive service in a fair, sensitive, and professional manner in support of the University's mission. The University Police Department enforces all laws of the state of California and educate the community on safety and risk avoidance practices.

Position Summary

Enforce parking rules/regulations by patrolling the campus. Issues warnings (verbal/written) and citations to violators. Repair/Replace disabled parking meters and dispensers. Monitor lots as preventable measure to deter crime. Hourly intermittent on as needed basis.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Required Education: High School diploma or equivalent (GED).

Preferred Education: Bachelor's Degree or additional course work in Administration of Justice.

Required Experience: Three to six months experience is required.

Preferred Experience: Demonstrated/documented experience interacting with the public in a service-driven environment. Full-time paid parking enforcement experience with a college, university, municipal or county law enforcement agency. Demonstrated parking enforcement or Community Service Officer ("CSO") experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

-Working knowledge of applicable procedures and regulations related to parking and traffic control.

-Thorough knowledge of campus layout and parking facilities.

-Ability to act and resolve parking and traffic problems.

-Working knowledge of parking-related equipment.

-Ability to write standard parking incident reports in a clear and concise manner.

-Working knowledge of applicable radio systems.

-Ability to observe and recall details and incidents, as well as detect and respond appropriately to potentially hazardous situations.

-Ability to effectively interact with a wide range of individuals including the campus community and the general public.

-Ability to appropriately handle parking monies received.

-Ability to work hourly intermittent, on-call, including evenings and weekends.

Specialized Materials: The position activities may require the use of the following equipment, machinery, tools,vehicles or office equipment:

Hand held citation devices, email, printer, copier, multi-line telephones, vehicles (electric and gasoline powered). Two-way radio.

Certification: Valid Driver's License
