ResponsibilitiesThe Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures in Mercer University's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position to start August 1, 2021. Candidates must demonstrate native or near-native proficiency in French and English and excellence in teaching. We seek to hire a colleague who can strengthen our growing French major and minor programs.
Responsibilities include teaching 21 hours per academic year at the undergraduate-level French language, culture, and literature courses, as well as contribute to Mercer's signature foundational programs (e.g. Great Books, Integrative Studies); engaging in scholarship; creating and supervising academic opportunities for students beyond the classroom; and contributing to the department and the College through service. We welcome candidates who demonstrate the potential for excellent undergraduate teaching; the capacity for ongoing peer-reviewed scholarship; a desire to be an active citizen in our department and College; a commitment to or interest in the liberal arts; a desire to engage students outside the classroom in activities such as undergraduate research, service projects, or internships; and readiness to develop or implement pedagogies that promote the learning of students of all backgrounds (racial, ethnic, socio-economic, able/disabled, etc.).
QualificationsA Ph.D. in the French or Francophone Studies, or closely related field from an accredited college/university is required. ABD candidates will be considered at the rank of Instructor until a Ph.D. is obtained.
