Assistant/Associate Professor of Communication and Public Relations

Palm Beach Atlantic University (PBA), a private Christian institution located in West Palm Beach, Florida, seeks an inspiring and strategic Assistant/Associate Professor of Communication with a special emphasis in Public Relations. Preference will be given to those candidates who have field experience in Public Relations. The entrepreneurial candidate will further enhance the excellence and vitality of the Department in accordance with the University mission. This program of study is currently located in the School of Communication & Media, however, Palm Beach Atlantic University’s Board of Trustees recently voted to merge the School of Music & Fine Arts and the School of Communication & Media to form the College of the Arts, effective August 2021. Programs of study in the College will now include Cinema, Communication, Dance, Digital Media, Gaming, Graphic Design, Journalism, Music, Preparatory Department, Public Relations, Sports Broadcasting, Theatre, and Visual Art. Typical teaching load is four courses each semester and this position reports to the Chair of the Department of Applied Digital Media & Communication. Rank is commensurate with credentials and experience.

 

Required Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in Public Relations or Communication with a concentration in Public Relations (Doctoral Candidates who are ABD will be considered, but all degree requirements must be completed by Summer 2022)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Public Relations as an academic discipline and a practice

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of teaching experience at the university level
  • 3+ years field experience in Public Relations, as evidenced by a portfolio of recent work
  • Successful track record of online course development and instruction as measured by student and administration evaluations.

 

Summary of Job Duties

  • According to expertise, primary focus in Public Relations coursework and secondary focus in Communication coursework. Courses taught may include, Risk and Crisis Communication, Public Relations Writing, Strategies, and Campaigns, Advertising, Communication Ethics, Persuasion, Communication Theory, and Research Methods.
  • Participate in University service, faculty development programs, and student advising
  • Develop and deliver interdisciplinary courses
  • Contribute to scholarly and/or proprietary activity
  • Integrate Christian faith and pedagogy
  • Oversee experiential learning projects with external organizations, such as internships and senior capstone campaign

This person will excel in attention to detail, effective oral and written communication, consensus building, creative problem solving, professionalism, and intrinsic work ethic. The self-motivated person will bring the inspiration and enthusiasm required to advance creative momentum, ensuring the Department’s achievements are broadcast widely and strategically.
