Research Technician II



Job Purpose

A Research Technician position is available in the lab of Dr. Bruno Di Stefano (Assistant Professor, Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine Center & the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology) at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX. The Di Stefano lab (distefano-lab.com) seeks to understand the post-transcriptional and epigenetic mechanisms that govern stem cell potency and cell fate decisions. The ultimate goal is to utilize these mechanistic insights to develop new strategies to treat cancer and other complex diseases. This position's primary role will be carrying out studies involving mice, cell culture, and molecular biology. The candidate will be working independently and together with the Principal Investigator and postdoctoral associates. The successful candidate will be detail-oriented, self-motivated, a fast learner, and possess excellent time management, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills. Above all, the candidate should be honest, considerate, and reliable.

Job Duties
  • Perform molecular, biochemical and cellular experiments and analyze the data independently.
  • Confer with Principal Investigator (PI) and other lab members to plan and execute complex experiments.
  • Maintain necessary inventory of supplies and reagents required for experiments.
  • Accurately document experiments to ensure that work can be replicated by others.
  • Collect, analyze, compile, interpret and evaluate research results and report progress to PI.
  • Prepares and conducts laboratory research experiments with mouse and cell line models under the supervision of PI and/or postdoc.
  • Collects, compiles, and analyzes data.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • No experience required.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Basic molecular and cell culture research experiences.
  • Good knowledge of basic concept of biology and genetics.
  • Experience with mice is preferred, but not required.
  • The successful candidate will be detail oriented, self-motivated, a fast learner and possess excellent time management, organizational, written and verbal communication skills.
