Summary

Under the general direction of the Director of Online Systems, the Online Learning Systems Administrator maintains, coordinates, and manages all online learning systems in support of California Baptist University by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Serve as main contact for the current Learning Management System, Blackboard.
2. Maintain consistency of online environment/user interface for positive student and faculty experience.
3. Provide support for Blackboard environment and related online systems.
4. Knowledge of Webex, TelePresence conferencing, and lecture/capture technologies.
5. Oversee system integrity as it relates to online learning systems.
6. Coordinate technical issues with Blackboard support, service tickets, schedule updates and upgrades, and works with other technical vendors as needed.
7. Manage Blackboard system in the areas of analytics, copy, archive, removal of courses, building blocks, blogs, wikis, and other related system features.
8. Assist with web development in the areas of content management.
9. Maintain proper upload of courses, students, and faculty data to Blackboard and other related online systems.
10. Organize, schedule, and train faculty, staff and students in the online environment. Work with instructional designers to provide training as needed.
11. Stay abreast of online technologies, delivery and teaching methods including multimedia, video, audio, animation, and related web applications.
12. Analyze and monitor Blackboard usage including bandwidth and storage.
13. Archive Blackboard courses using a scheduled process.
14. Understanding of Americans with Disabilities Act ( ADA ), and Section 504/508 guidelines, and how it applies to an online environment. Knowledge of WAI, Web Accessibility Initiative.
15. Track system inventory and assist with Mac and Windows imaging and development to staff and faculty.
16. Provide technology support for computer desktops, laptops and mobile devices (e.g., tablets, smartphones), phones, computer monitors and other computer peripherals.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Other Knowledge Skills and Abilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
 Knowledge and experience with Learning Management Systems and web-based course delivery systems.
 Knowledge of operating systems (desktop and server).
 Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications (PC’s and MAC’s).
 Ability to plan, develop, and coordinate multiple projects.
 Knowledge of web browsing and enhancement tools, utilities, and applications.
 Ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position.
 Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff and student body.
 Knowledge of web authoring tools, including current web languages such as HTML .
 Skill with multimedia such as video, audio, animation, and webinars.
 Excellent telephone courtesy, knowledge, and experience.
 Ability to coordinate and organize meetings and/or special events.
 Knowledge of applicable data and network standards and applications.
 Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials.
 Ability to investigate and analyze information and to draw conclusions.
 Ability to understand web accessibility issues.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university in Computer Science, Information Systems, Instructional Technology or a related field; or four to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in support of a Learning Management System, Blackboard preferred.
