Assistant Professor in Population Geography
The Department of Geography and Urban Sustainability seeks to make an appointment to an Assistant Professor in population Geography. The position will be of interest to those with expertise in human Geography , examination of the geographical dimension to human population, Social Statistics and Demography, spatial variation in population characteristics (fertility and mortality), population projections at national and regional scales, advanced modelling, simulation , clustering techniques, geo-demographics , the relation between demographic growth and resources, migration pattern and dynamics globally and locally.
The role holder will be a member of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS). He/She will be recognized in his/her field, developing and maintaining a high-profile and will become a leading member of a dynamic, cutting edge research culture, having access to the excellent research facilities which UAEU offers. The faculty will have a vital role to play in the development and achievement of CHSS within the context of the strategic goals of UAEU, leading research and scholarship in his/her field.
The faculty is expected to lead on advanced, internationally excellent research, securing high impact research funding, to teach and to supervise at the undergraduate and graduate levels, to contribute to admissions, examining and assessment, and to contribute fully to academic administration in both the Department and the College.
The successful candidate will make a full contribution to the academic life of the University through research, teaching and academic service. The candidate is expected to have extensive teaching experience, together with a significant publication record, proven research experience and to have demonstrated academic leadership and an ability to lead and manage effectively. There is considerable flexibility in the organization of duties and faculty workload planning undertaken as part of ongoing staff review with the Department Chair in order to ensure appropriate time and opportunity to undertake all duties as well as for professional development.
The broad balance of duties for a faculty (at all levels) includes Teaching, Supervision and Examining (40%), Research (40%) and to contribute to the overall development of the College and Departmental profile as a world-leading provider of education, training and research of the highest academic standard (20%).

The College and Department
The Department of Geography and Urban Sustainability, CHSS is housed in a state-of-the -art facility on Maqam campus offering undergraduate and graduate programs. The Department is interdisciplinary, with 12 full-time faculty members specializing in Human Geography, Physical Geography, Cartography, GIS, and Remote Sensing. The University offers a competitive compensation package for faculty with a starting annual salary commensurate with experience. In exceptional cases, appointments advertised for posts at Assistant Professor level may be made to Associate Professor. There is the opportunity for promotion in post through the annual review and promotion system.
Education & qualifications
Candidates should have a PhD in population Geography. Duties involve teaching, conducting research, advising students and serving on dissertation committees. All teaching is delivered in English. Therefore, native or near-native English is required.

Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed remotely. Final round interviews may be held on campus and candidates may be asked to submit a more detailed research proposal and/or give a short presentation as part of the interview process.
