Job Description

The Department of Educational Leadership in the College of Education and Human Development at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi invites applications for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Professor of Educational Leadership with experience and credentials in P-20 leadership (school or district or higher education administration) and expertise in quantitative methods to teach, engage in scholarship, and provide professional and university service. The position is to begin fall 2021.

Our graduates use scholarly inquiry and practice to guide decisions on all levels of educational activity, in K-12 and higher education settings. We are seeking a research scholar with experience in educational leadership or educational administration (or a closely related field) to help prepare outstanding educational leaders at all levels. The ideal candidate is one who is prepared to help build scholarly capacity in our students that allows them to investigate and deal with social issues of equity and democracy in their professional settings.

The selected candidate will be expected to teach both online and face-to-face classes and will be expected to be on campus for teaching, service, and office hours at least 2 -3 days per week. May involve night, weekend, and electronic course delivery.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to the Institute's teaching, research, and service missions.
  • Teach graduate courses in the educational leadership department, advise graduate students
  • Chair and serve on dissertation committee, and to consult with faculty members on research projects.
  • Engage in their own scholarly work as well as consult with faculty members on research projects


Required Qualifications:
  • Earned doctorate in Educational Leadership or Educational Administration (or closely related field) from an accredited college or university.
  • Demonstrated expertise in quantitative methods.
  • A record of professional leadership experience in an educational setting (K-12/higher education)
  • Demonstrated engagement in scholarly/creative works.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience serving on doctoral dissertations as a chair and as a committee methodologist
  • Experience with securing external grants and managing funded projects
  • Experience in University teaching in a variety of delivery modes, to include evidence of face-to-face, online, or hybrid instruction
  • Work experience in a diverse and multicultural environment


Full Professor: In addition to the required qualifications and to fulfill faculty responsibilities, faculty holding this rank should meet the following qualifications.

Experience. Usually, at least ten years of full-time university faculty experience, including at least four years in the rank of associate professor.
  • Teaching. Successful experience teaching graduate level courses in educational leadership and quantitative methods. Demonstrated ability to supervise dissertation work.
  • Scholarship/Creative Activity. An established agenda of inquiry that has resulted in published scholarly works or peer-reviewed product/creative activity at the regional or national level related to the candidate's discipline and includes activity within the last three years.
  • Service. Has assumed a position of leadership in the college and the university by serving on committees or special projects. May also participate and lead in professional and community service insofar as the activities relate to the candidate's discipline or serve the university mission.


Associate Professor. In addition to the required qualifications and to fulfill faculty responsibilities, faculty holding this rank should meet the following qualifications.

Experience. Usually, at least five years of full-time university faculty experience, including at least three years in the rank of assistant professor.
  • Teaching. Having a broad knowledge of the discipline and an in-depth knowledge in one or more parts of the field, the associate professor is a teacher of proven quality. Has the ability, experience, and expertise to teach both master's and doctoral level courses. Demonstrated ability to supervise dissertation work.
  • Scholarship/Creative Activity. Continues an agenda of inquiry that has resulted in published scholarly works or peer-reviewed product/creative activity at the regional or national level related to the candidate's discipline.
  • Service. Has begun to assume a position of leadership in the college and the university by serving on committees or special projects. May also participate and lead in professional and community service insofar as the activities relate to the candidate's discipline or serve the university mission.


Assistant Professor. In addition to the required qualifications and to fulfill faculty responsibilities, faculty holding this rank should meet the following qualifications.

Experience. Some university/college teaching experience or related professional/work experience is preferred.
  • Teaching. Shows continuing progress in teaching proficiency by deepening knowledge in the teaching specialty and developing effective instructional strategies and techniques. Is developing the expertise needed to teach graduate courses by participating in professional development activities aimed at making one a better teacher or at enhancing one's expertise in a teaching subject area.
  • Scholarship/Creative Activity. Evidence of scholarly activity and commitment to conduct research for publication.
  • Service. Evidence of service to the university, community and professional association.
