Full-time, administrative position responsible for administering the academic advising program for Pott College of Science, Engineering, and Education students which include: establish goals, priorities, strategies and procedures for the college advising center, and maintain a load of academic advisees, with particular emphasis on first-year, special population, and at-risk students. The director will oversee the college advising assessment program.

 

Essential Functions include:

  • Lead the academic advising program for Pott College of Science, Engineering, and Education.
  • Coordinate, in conjunction with the Associate Dean, advising staff assignments and schedules.
  • Manage day-to-day operations of the advising center, including recruiting, hiring, training, monitoring, and evaluating all staff and advising fellows in the advising center.
  • Lead the college advising assessment program, including data collection such as student usage, student surveys, retention data, advisor performance, and center effectiveness and prepare assessment reports.
  • Oversee the development, distribution, and maintenance of literature and web-based information regarding the college advising center activities.
  • Direct the administration of the faculty advising fellows program within the college.
  • Organize and lead advisor development programs for faculty and staff with advising responsibilities within the college.

 

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • Master’s degree required. Master’s in counseling, college student services or a related field, with a particular emphasis on first-year, special population, and at-risk students in STEM or education fields preferred.
  • Three years’ experience in academic advising and/or advising administration with increasing responsibilities at the college level required.
  • Knowledge of NACADA (National Academic Advising Association) Core Values, CAS (Council for the Advancement of Standards) professional standards, and Federal guidelines affecting students and faculty (i.e. FERPA), background to facilitate in-depth review necessary for programmatic changes; progressive managerial and administrative background relating to programs and services to students required.
  • Extensive knowledge of academic programs, policies and regulations as well as interpretation and solutions to unique student situations as well as input for revising current policies required.
  • Membership and involvement in NACADA preferred.
  • Experience working with a student information system (e.g. SIS or BANNER) preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written required.
  • Knowledge of microcomputers, word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software, and electronic mail required.
