The Education Studies Department of Skidmore College, a selective liberal arts college in Saratoga Springs, New York, invites applications for a full-time, two-year Visiting Assistant Professor beginning September 2021.

Premised on a constructivist approach to teaching and learning, faculty in the Education Studies Department prepare students for initial certification in New York State, grades 1-6. In addition, the Department’s on-campus lab school, the Early Childhood Center, provides a resource for teaching and research.

The teaching load for this position is 5 courses (18 credits) each academic year. Candidates with expertise in elementary education, including child development, curriculum and instruction, and multicultural education are encouraged to apply. A Ph.D. or Ed.D. in the field of Education is preferred; however, ABD candidates will be considered.

Preferred qualifications for this position include a strong commitment to social justice, teaching experience at the college and/or elementary school level, a robust commitment to undergraduate teacher education within a liberal arts context, student teaching supervision experience and the ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds. Skidmore is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their research, teaching and/or service.
