Job Summary
The Assistant Professor, Practical Nursing will teach a minimum of 18-21 contact hours of class, lab, simulation, and/or clinical per week of practical nursing courses, which may include Foundations of Nursing, Medical-Surgical Nursing, Mental Health and Gerontology, and Physical Assessment for the Practical Nurse. Teaching assignments will be primarily during the day with evening, weekend, hybrid obligations if program needs change, and are subject to change as needed.
In addition to teaching, the Assistant Professor, Practical Nursing will perform other duties expected of full-time faculty including maintaining scheduled office hours; developing and revising curriculum; developing and implementing course and program assessment of student learning outcomes; participating in college, division, and department meetings; serving on committees; and other duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate will be one who has demonstrated strong teaching ability; demonstrated
knowledge of and commitment to the teaching mission of a comprehensive community college;
is comfortable adopting and integrating new technologies into coursework and online content;
embraces collaboration with faculty and students from other disciplines, as well as people from the community.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Registered nurse in Kansas
3 years clinical work experience in nursing with a focus on medical-surgical nursing
Demonstrated strong classroom, lab and clinical teaching ability
Ability to teach primarily during the day
Ability to teach evening or weekend classes as assigned as program needs change
Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to the teaching mission of a comprehensive community college
Excellent interpersonal skills to interact with students, faculty and staff
Strong understanding of the changing landscape of higher education
Comfortable adopting new technologies, delivering engaging online content
Comfortable collaborating with faculty and students from other disciplines, as well as people from the community
Preferred Qualifications
Master of Science in Nursing
5+ years in medical-surgical or long-term care
