Position Summary

This position will provide leadership in the development, delivery, and educational outreach programming of community and school gardens across the state of Georgia for UGA Cooperative Extension. Specifically, the role will create, arrange, recruit participants, and help teach workshops for community and school gardens to workers, professionals, and educators involved in the production, installation, maintenance, and utilization of community and school gardens. The position will work closely with UGA Specialists, County Agents, the Urban Agriculture Council, and other interested organizations across the State of Georgia.

-Computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office suite

Duties/Responsibilities

Duties/Responsibilities

• Research, develop, and coordinate curriculum, publications and other educational resources in the area of community and school gardens
• Assist clientele with access to Extension resources and services for community and school gardens including printed publications, online content, other educational materials.
• Liaison and utilize the expertise of advisory groups, community leaders, public officials, educational leaders, and representatives of intended audiences to analyze data, identify needs, and assist in developing educational programs.
• Arrange, recruit participants, and help teach workshops on community and school gardens to workers, professionals, and educators involved in the production, installation, maintenance, and utilization of gardens.
• Measure the impact of workshops and trainings on participant knowledge level by creating and administering pre-and post-training evaluations and surveys.
• Assist clientele in registering for local, regional, or statewide workshops/conferences and training or testing associated with certification programs offered by Extension (e.g. pesticide applicators, certified landscape professional, turf-grass trainings, etc.)
• Publicize programs and workshops offered in local county or nearby counties to clientele and facilitate conference calls/video conferences to connect clientele with County Agents from other counties or with State Specialists.
• Use mass media, website, and internet media to advertise programs and cooperate with other staff in preparing project reports.
• Work closely with UGA specialists, County Agents, the Urban Agriculture Council, and other interested organizations.
