Mission or Goal of Unit

The mission of the Business School’s Department of Information Systems is to ensure that faculty, students, and staff have the information technology tools and infrastructure necessary to carry out the school’s strategic plan and the university’s goals as they relate to the Quest for Distinction. The department prepares students by providing resources to enrich their educational experiences that lead to lifelong learning and successful careers. Our education is firmly grounded in technology, interdisciplinary teamwork and global perspectives. Essential to achieving this mission is striving to excel in teaching and scholarly research and to build effective, value-based relationships with the external community.

Chief purpose of this position in support of above mission or goal

The Department of Information Systems at Virginia Commonwealth University invites outstanding applicants to apply for the position of Assistant Professor of Information Systems. This is a tenure-track faculty position, effective August 10, 2021.

Position Responsibilities

This tenure-eligible position will support both the teaching and research mission of the Department of Information Systems. Responsibilities include teaching courses in Information Systems at the advanced undergraduate and master’s levels. The applicant must conduct scholarly research where the output of such research is presented in refereed peer-reviewed journals of a high caliber, advise students, and provide service to the department, school, university, and the academic community. Preferred areas are the following: information security, data/business analytics, data science, systems analysis & design, and healthcare information systems. Other specialty areas related to information technology may be considered.

Required Qualifications

PhD or ABD or foreign equivalent in Information Systems or highly related discipline, preferably from an AACSB accredited school.
Applicants must have earned a PhD in one of the above-listed fields by the appointment date.
Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment, or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU .
