Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and email.
  • Ability to quickly learn technical advising tools including, but not limited to, Banner, Degree Works, Fortis, Self-Service, Dashboard and E-Print.
  • Evidence of excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational ability and attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and work well in a team environment requiring both ability to take initiative and work independently as well as collaboratively.
  • Strong desire to work with a college-age student population and commitment to student success.
  • Exhibits commitment to execute all responsibilities with quality and excellence.
  • Exhibits high level of ethics, integrity and professionalism in all dealings.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The College Academic Advisor reports to the Associate Dean and works closely with the staff in the College of Fine and Applied Arts ( CFAA ), to support advising throughout the college. Additionally, the Academic Advisor will work with department chairs, faculty advisors, University College advising staff, colleagues in comparable offices across campus, and other offices that provide academic support such as the Office of Student Success, as necessary. This position will serve as the CFAA liaison to University College advising in order to streamline communication of curricular updates, program notes, etc.

Responsibilities of the Academic Advisor include, but are not limited to:

  • Disseminating clear advising information to each department in role of college liaison to other advising units on campus;
  • Responding to faculty advisors’ requests;
  • Assisting students with developing appropriate and realistic academic plans and course selections, and monitoring academic progress;
  • Assisting students in academic trouble with strategies for achieving academic success;
  • Provide faculty advisors and staff with targeted advising tips for CFAA via departmental listservs or college webpage.
Suggested Salary Range $45,000 - $50,000 Physical Demands of Position
